Just missed the deal of the decade.

Received a mailer from BMWNA offering front brakes, pads, sensor for $646. This is almost 50% off at an Indy shop.

Today is September 11th. The offer expired August 31, 2024.

My fronts are due within the next 2k-3k miles.
You can call them and find out if they would actually accept it given that you didn't receive it in the mail until after the expiration date.

You may be surprised to find out that they will say yes to that.

When you say front brakes, do you mean rotors? Back in the day that’s $260 already when DIY. Then pads another $110 but much more now. Sensor $13 (OEM not OE). So $400 DIY in 2016. $650 8 years later and no dirt on hands? Reasonable (if it has the rotors, not for a pad slap which I can’t believe BMW does all that time now).

My condolences. Just had my fronts done a couple weeks ago at the Indy shop. I wouldn't have taken mine to my local BMW dealer even with that coupon, as I do not trust them.
I wouldn’t either. They ripped out my rear sensor doing a 4 wheel alignment, when I had just done all 4 brakes myself with OE other than the sensors , OEM. Denied, blah blah BBB A+ to C - blah blah what can we do blah blah free water pump ok blah blah and I never went back. Too crooked

For future reference, and anybody wondering how much a BMW Indy charges for brake work in late 2024, my guy in North AL charged:
Front rotors (pair): $470
Front Pad set: $155
Sensor: $36
Labor: $320
Total: $981 + tax
All of you brake work DIYers could have done it for significantly less, but I swore off brake work and refuse to do it myself. I'll do a lot of other maintenance myself, but no more brakes. I hate brakes!

Yeah, but when they took it apart they would find you need new muffler bearings, which are not part of the “ special”. And then there is the issue of the low blinker fluid.

Yes. Rotors, pads, sensor

That you live in ATL area could explain much. Mailed a card to a family member in ATL burb (~275 road miles) on 7/10, still undelivered. MIA as it were.
Ya. The regional USPS is under renovation. We've had a lot of mail problems and they lost my most recent UOA sample. *Sigh*

Our indy shop here in NC doesn't have 'sales' or coupons, but they treat us very well. As did our last indy shop on the west coast when we lived there. I prefer to build a long term relationship with a shop I know and trust than follow coupons. I often use the term 'trusted shop' in threads, what I mean by that is not just an honest shop, but a shop that works with you to keep your vehicles going as economically as possible, too. Not a place that spends it's time looking for things to replace. I've never regretted building a relationship with a shop that way, and my wife and I have had great experiences and have kept our cars going about as economically as possible if not doing the work yourself.

I 100% trust when our shop says we need to do this or that, or proactively take care of something to save us money later. When you're couponing it you have no idea what you're getting, plus I'm generally skeptical of shops that need to have sales to get people into the door. Much better to make a real relationship with a shop that has integrity and will be there for you through thick and thin. Just my opinion of course.

I don't own them outside of warranty but have seen pricing on what my preferred Indy's do at their shops.
He's still charging me generally per time spent and maybe ++ 60-90 minutes more.....depending on the job and the same labor rate from like EON's ago.

However, what I have seen on the 2 Indy's I use, they are charging similar to Dealers - Book Time at maybe a slightly lower labor rate.
Generally also charging full MSRP OE on parts whether they are using a OE part or a direct OEM equivalent ..

So as far as costs, at least in my area IME, it costs similar but the scope of how a Indy deals with a repair is different than a dealer.
+ you generally know who is going to work on the car or the small team who would be

I suppose the only benefit for a dealer is if you don't own a second car, one get's a loaner (ymmv on this as well I suppose)

And one major thing has changed with BMW.........dealers are even turning rotors these days, which was def. not something they were akin to doing in the past.

Sometimes it’s better to pay someone to do the job.

I also hate doing brakes.

I don't mind brakes, but, I did a starter in the 2012 Santa Fe once, NEVER again. Nightmare to get to. One of the coolant hoses (small one) runs literally up against the bottom bolts. When I went to pull the hose off, it just crumbled in my hand. Had to go to Hyundai to get one (no aftermarket for it) and the parts guy was shocked I did the job myself in the driveway. He told one of the techs who had just walked in and the tech saluted me and said ' You're the man, want a job?"

True story.
