The problem with oil filters (and oil) is that the failures are slow. Let a portion of your oil circulate unfiltered and you will not kill your engine in one oil change, or two, or even ten. But you will shorten the life of your engine. Maybe you will get 100,000 instead of 200,000. And you will never blame the filter you believe in.

There are people here who argue with me that engines never last more than 80,000 miles, no matter what filter or oil you put in them, so why bother with expensive stuff? They spend $5000 every 50,000 to 70,000 miles on a rebuild. You show them engines with 300,000 and they refuse to believe it or say it has never carried a load or been driven "normally".

Yes, you can buy whatever you want, pay whatever you want, and believe whatever you want.
I see that Fram discounted on line for $5.95 to $6.95 + shipping. They sell it here for about $8.00. I sell the Donaldson P552849 for around $7 to $8 (or less for big customers) (delivered or installed) before sales tax. (And the US has many more options)

What is the point of maybe saving a few cents when you can see (on this site) what you are getting?

+1, 100%
I read a lot, stuff like: "I used (this or that)or didn't change my oil for 30K miles with no issues at all."
And I'm thinking--how do you know that there were "no issues"?

What are they using? How often do they change oil? Here cars regularly run 200K and the body falls off running Fram and dino or whatever the iffy lube uses.

There is a guy at work that has a 1991 toyota with 323,000 on it. Except for the first oil filter on it he has used FRAM and regular oil and the car is still running. He does change both every 3,000 miles....

I'm not worried. Fram/Honeywell caters to the uninformed, not the informed.

Seriously, I'd be surprised if they didn't already know that we think of them...

My name is Bob and I'm a recovering FRAM-aholic.

. . . and I'm a qualityholic who simply refuses to give in to that for which the masses have fallen. What an ugly shame to see that orange wall-o-death at WM. And yet another reason to be concerned about used cars. . .

You could simply NEVER make this happen to a metal end cap design, unless you have a bionic arm, and even then, maybe not. . . Notice especially how the flimsy lightweight centertube has folded in without any meaningful resistance.
