Does anyone else have the great feeling of satisfaction after changing the oil in your gf/wife/daughters car, knowing that it got the proper care and oil?

She use to go to Jiffy Lube or Tuffy but I put an end to that. She was getting charged $50 for a HM and a 3k OCI! I have changed all that. The car now has a diet of M1 HM and a napa gold and a 6k or 1 yr. The car is 75% city driving. After the first OCI on M1HM I'm sending a UOA off to check on the engine and for possible extension of OCI.

I can now sleep good at night knowing that the engine has been properly maintenanced.

Aside from cost, a 3K OCI regiment is hardly bad for the engine. But yes I agree, I maintain my folks' car and I like to know it will be trouble free and running well for them.

Even if you change your own oil at 3k and do some shopping you will save money with the deals...you save a ton if you extend the intervals as well.

75% city....? I'd definitely go for a UOA particularly due to the fact that the oil may not be getting to operating temperature....

A chain of service stores like Midas or Jiffy Lube.

I think it is midwest based.
They do more than just oil changes and actually have ASE certified people. Sometimes.

I get a Tuffy every time I pour new oil into my engine.

I use to feel great satifaction after doing the work, not anymore. I dont get appriciated for it like I use to. All I get in return is griping about how much parts and maintenance materials costs. I spend teh time researching sales and driving around town picking up the deals, spend the time under the vehicle, and then get questioned on why I had to spend so much money. The last time, I told her that she can go pay labor charges at a shop and then gripe about prices.

But, if I didnt do it, it wouldnt get done. She is one of those people that buys cars and only think about the payment instead of the payment, maintenance, fuel, insurance, tires...etc, then whines at every fuel stop

On the flip side, I still get appreciation from my mom everytime I see her. I cleaned her sticky IAC valve in her explorer about a year ago. she makes sure to tell me the engine is still idling great.

Good work!
I just hope you don't get blamed when the headlight burns out next week. (After all, you were the last one to touch the car!)
