What does GM in Australia specify for a viscosity grade ?

Unfortunately it's not in the paperwork I have with me. I'll try and find out and report back. I can't find it on the GM Oz web site either.

I said the 5W30 because it's the only DEXOS oil I have ever seen at the stores. The last time I checked (few weeks ago) castrol didn't even sell a 5w20 or 0w20 oil in Australia (according to their web site). I have never seen a xW20 oil at any store I visit. I would find it unusual for a big company like GM Holden to sell cars in Oz that another big company like Castrol didn't support with a product.

Castrol Magnatec is one.

As mentioned Castrol Magnatec is a Dexos 5w20 and it's a full syn that's priced closer to a blend. Nice.

Nice car by the way. I have been mad at GM for quite a while but the recent Malibu's and Impalas are very tempting.

You can relax. It's a great little engine with no real issues at all.

Our good friends have a 2014 and it is a smooth and quiet machine, it would make a great D/D commuter car...

+1 and Castrol Magnatec would be a my choice if going full syn.

The impala is a lil big for my taste. The Malibu was a decent size

they all do until you give the pedal 95% throttle

My girlfriend has a 2014 Malubi LTZ with the 2.5L engine.

She bought an extended warranty from the dealer which covers maintenance and such.

When the dealer changes the oil they put on the ticket that they use AC Delco 5W-20 dexos1 Synthetic Blend oil and a GM oil filter. They change it every 5K miles.

Let the dealer do the free oil changes for the first 24K miles, then use any oil that is dexos1 compliant and a good filter.

I have a 13, generally the same 2.5l, but without the start/stop.

I use whatever Dexos syn is on sale. My local walmart always seems to have either Pennzoil, Mobil 1, or Castrol on sale for ~22 for 5 quarts, around the time I need to do an oil change - so I just pick up a jug of that. I run it until the OLM says it's up, which is generally around 7500 miles.

How do you like the engine auto stop/start feature? I gather this can't be suppressed, so if it's an annoyance it'll be a permanent one.

What is weird, is that nobody buys Chevrolet cars down here (for the most part).

It is all chevy trucks and SUV's.

The only new chevy cars I see regularly are fleet owned, or rentals.

Exact opposite when I lived in Buffalo, everybody had a Cobalt/Cruze/Malibu/Impala.

Mostly Toyota and Honda down here for passenger cars.

I don't even know what the new Malibu looks like.

Why would you use Supertech and not get an oil filter from Walmart? Unless they recently started carrying Wix filters or you buy in bulk, why not just buy a filter that Walmart carries. Im just curious.. Wix/NG filters are great but not worth making two different trips for.

You live in Texas, 25% of the pickups sold in the USA are sold in Texas.

Delco filter would do just fine.

The ACDelco filters at Walmart are the E-core type with the plastic center tube and the Purolator filters are always tearing. That leaves the Fram orange can and it's mostly cardboard inside. The only filter Walmart has worth buying is the Fram XG.
