So that little dive motel I been doing maintenance at was bought by a few investor buddies a couple of months ago, we were told our jobs would be okay things would get better around the property since they had contracted with this larger hospitality management company even raises were on the horizon. Sometime last month my boss the live in property manager tells me her boss says we need to hold off on any big planned projects, so I'm like okay which I thought was odd since we had just cleaned out a room that was a drug den and needed just about everything new and with vacation season a few weeks away in Myrtle Beach I am thinking they wouldn't want to be without every room on the property available. So now fast forward a few weeks to a month later my boss still hasn't received her corporate card, the housekeepers are struggling with supplies and linens my boss is telling her boss I got a stack of unpaid linen supply bills etc. She had been laying money out for basic cleaning supplies which she did get reimbursed for in her paychecks and here I am running short on parts I keep on hand like faucets, toilet parts, receptables, switches, smoke alarms and bulbs. They closed our HD account my boss' boss told her don't worry they are old accounts and they'll be paid we have new accounts and will get you onboard.

So here we are Thursday of this past week my boss says her boss came by for a visit asked if he could take a conference call in an available room said he was in there no more or less than 10 minutes he then came out and says you got a place to talk she goes sure what's going on? He says I want you to know and for you to inform your staff they have until July 10th and the long term stays at the property have until the July 4th weekend to be out. What my boss is being told the investor buds had a side offer for this property that was too good to not accept. My boss was offered to move and keep her job to some motel property the company owns up in North Carolina about 4 hours away she will have all her moving expenses paid and gets to keep her job and benefits. This is by no means a dream job but perfect for a retired guy/gal for pocket cash it was super convenient for me and my (friend - coworker) that lives around the corner, she's semi-retired and it was right up the road from my son's daycare which my daughter would also go to. We were informed of this Friday and supposedly myself and the two housekeepers will be paid a months severance.

Investors and "private equity" strike again.

Just want throughout this recently. Folks running the company wanted a quick payday and ... that was it.
I think they realized just how much of a dump these properties are and what it would take to get them up to speed and this property just happens to be the one they let go to recoup some of the loss. I have been doing facility maintenance for 20 years I can tell you this particular place is in baaaad shape and I hear the other properties are not far behind if not worse. this is what happens when you take an extended stay motel and let people live in for 5+ years with poor property managers and no maintenance plan they go to the :poop:

I am sorry you have to deal with that uncertainty. However, it sounds like you are skilled and that should make finding something else to replace it more straightforward. I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you I appreciate that. As the signature says have tools will fix lol. It took us all for surprise maybe not my boss I bet she knew for a while we were out and she was safe, I hear shes a liar well let's not go there maybe a good story teller. Yeah I won't let it bog me down I have lots of skills to offer and a great supportive wife just finding a place with flexibility to do side jobs and play Mr Mom will be difficult especially in the hospitality business. For self worth and sanity I don't know if I would go back into this field not now anyway I worked this property a few years back and left it when it was under a different property manager the vibes I had then I should have stayed away the second round.

So are the new owners going to run it as a hotel or do they have other plans? If they do they'd probably be happy to have you on as you know all the skeletons in the closets.

My boss says going to be dedicated apartments or somewhat my thought in the location they cant be luxury apartments so I believe they'll be section 8 and low income housing.

It always stinks to lose a job. You talked about it being a good retired guy job for pocket cash then about your son's daycare so unclear where you are in your work life. Hope this doesn't cause you money problems and you find something else fast.
Financially my family will be fine. I left an okay job at a public utility in exchange to help raise the kids since my wife’s salary far exceeds what my take home was at the utility company. My son just graduated pre-k and will start kindergarten this August my daughter right now is home but we had plans on putting her in daycare a few days a week and while she was at daycare I could work the motel and take on handyman jobs. That’s why I liked this motel job it was a steady check every two weeks with good flexibility though the pay would differ depending on hours I put in but was normally ahead with just pulling off one or two quick side jobs like hanging a ceiling fan or replacing a faucet for someone. The motel job paid on the books so this was good for SS and taxes and the handyman job people especially older retired folk find it easier to toss you cash.
