Hello,

I am in the market for a wrangler 4 door, 2.8l CRD turbo diesel with auto transmission.

I think 2010 was last year without the Diesel particle filter so i would prefer to get the one without it.

I really dont know anything about diesel oil. For my car i been using Castrol edge with titanium FST a3/b4 0w 40 which is a group 4 base POA.

In diesel oils... whats as good as that?

I seen castrol RX, Mangatech, Penrite HPR diesel and Mobile 1 delo (or something like that)...

The edge for petrol engine was one of the best oils you can buy... so I am looking for th best diesel oil now to get ready for my new Wrangler.

I am in australia.

Thanks for the help

I'd prolly go Delo400 or Delvac to start. As you become more knowledgeable about the actual vehicle you purchase, you can fine tune from there ...

So many good diesel oils.
Mobil Delvac, been around a long time, solid performer. ( Delvac name stands for D iesel E ngine O il by VAC uum distillation...)
Rotella, another long term player, strong following.
Delo, one of my favorites, nice dose of both Boron and Moly.
Valvoline, looks like a weaker sauce on a virgin analysis, but my UOA always turned out good, with TBN reserve, and low wear at my PowerStroke recommended change of 5000 miles.
If it meets the spec, it will work in your Jeep.

Hey and thanks.

Regarding low ash oil for diesels that do have the DPF... is a low ash oil better than one with higher levels?

Like... if the Wrangler doesn't have a DPF is it still worth using the oil that is designed low ash for the 4x4s that do have them?

Are diesel engines the same as petrol in the sense thwt there are group 4 POAs and hydrocracked oils etc?

Which would be group 4... if that is even recommended for a 2.8L CRD motor.

I sure balled that one up.
D iesel E ngine L ubricant by VAC uum distillation.
Now that we are clear on that, sure there are varying qualities of diesel lubes, just like passenger car oils.
Most are GrpII or II+, for conventional, GrpIII for synthetic, but there are a few that think exotic GrpIV are essential. As far as cooled EGR, EGR recirculation, soot traps, or other emission controls, IMO, CJ-4 spec addresses that.
Check your manual for the spec required. I think the line between low and high SAPS oils began to blur with CJ-4, and the new spec CK-4 narrows the gap even more. In fact, Rotella is even advertised here in the US as a low SAPS oil with the new CK-4 spec.

+1 ... both of these premium conventional HDEO's have a lower NOACK than T6 ... and stout HTHS & add packs ...
