Jeep Grand Wagoneer

I wanted to like these but they haven’t grown on me at all. I hate the chrome trim on the liftgate glass. The interiors look very nice but too much chrome overall and something is off with the proportions in the rest end.

I love the vehicle for what it is and all but the one thing that I dislike about (as well as the navigator/Expeditions) is the the exposed rear wiper. It looks terrible. GM did a fine job hiding the wiper up top. Makes for a cleaner look.

For that much money I’d be getting a Land Cruiser.

That ugly thing is a far cry from one of these bad boys...

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that they use chrome, it’s how they use it. Look how it sticks out, like it’s an overlay. Look how it fades into the roof. Why do the window shapes not follow the contour of the body? They look upside down.
That's it.....something with the side windows looks odd and that chrome to.

Definitely some alignment issues with the rear gate, I wouldn't accept that, the dealer would need to fix before delivery.
+1 The thought of the dealer trying to align that would keep me up at night. Based on having Ford total a van of mine for a paint issue I'd probably refuse delivery of that vehicle.

This is what makes it looks like a hearse. Coachbuilders use thick chrome trim to hide seams where the OE body ends and hearse components have been added. Back in the days of landeau roofs and vinyl tops, it was used to hide the edges of the vinyl (whose workmanship was always questionable).

The other thing is how prominent the frit is on the rear and side glass. Frit is the black band that trims out the edges of fixed glass. On the Grand Wagoneer, it is massive. The frit on the back glass has got to be 4"+ at the bottom corners.

I've loved Jeep for as long as I can remember. I was really excited about the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer, although I knew what it was likely to be (Yukon/Yukon XL competitor). I really, really wish Jeep would produce a trim level that got back to its roots- a stripped down, off-road (guilt-free) monster. I get that luxury vehicles generally have higher profit margins, but I just get the feeling that Jeep lost track of what made it special. Even if I felt comfortable spending that kind of money, I'd never spend 100k on a Jeep. I'm sorry, but there's just too many other vehicles that I'd rather have at that price range. I know people think it'll sell like hot cakes, but I'm going to take the wait-and-see approach.

That’s why hard core surf fisherman scooped up the old Suburban “boxes” … rugged trucks …

At one point in the early 90's, my family had a Wagoneer (SJ) and two Grand Cherokee (ZJ). All 3 were driven in the mountains on rough trails to get to fly fishing spots, and by the end of their lives, pretty beaten up. You couldn't stop them, though. They were tanks.

Saw my first one in person last week. I wanted to love this truck but the proportions are just... Off

Now, someone in my town has a new Suburban Z71 with a leveling kit and Goodyear Kevlars... White with black wheels - that's a good looking rig.

The chrome trim around the taillights could actually align with the trim on the lift gate. I’d expect better fit and finish on a $100,000 vehicle, but it is a Chrysler after all.
oh come on. That is well within the "tolerances allowed".....

The problem with this SUV and many like it is that $100k luxury just means a lot of tech that will soon be outdated, not necessarily quality craftsmanship. Ever close the door or sit in the interior of an old Grand Wagoneer? It feels solid. Same thing with an expensive older Mercedes-Benz. The newer luxury SUVs are all about how much tech gadgets they can jam into one interior, yet the seats feel like a park bench.

I recently drove a friend's newer BMW, and was not impressed. Sure it had power, and lots of tech, but the interior plastics rattled, and the seat was hard as a rock. If I closed my eyes I certainly wouldn't have guessed I was in a luxury vehicle.

I don't care for the style that much, but that's just me. Others will. The interior is beautiful.

And a $100K vehicle isn't that substantial anymore. You can run up a nice Diesel Dually pickup almost to that point today. It's gone the way of the $500K house..... A bit above the norm. Inflation desensitizes people financially. The older you are, the less you notice.

I remember the Sharon Tate murders back in 1969, when I was in high school. The news reporter said, "She was found stabbed to death inside of her sprawling $400,000.00 Hollywood Hills mansion"...... Today that buys you a clapboard box in suburbia.

This is the new numbers game.
How much can we charge and get suckers to buy. Just like the new Lexus LX 600...loaded about $130k.
