Jack Stands

I can't put the jackstands under the jacking points because the jack is in the way. Where should I put them???

This is precisely the same question that I have. I am always reluctant to find alternate jacking point by trial and error. Sometimes you will be able to find a service manual listing the jacking point but even the picture might be clear enough for a novice.

There's no problem having the whole car in the air using four jackstands. Place them properly, then don't add add a bunch of weight to the nose or tail of the car(your two 200lb buddies shootin the [censored] sitting on the bumper)that could cause it to tilt.

I've had a car sit this way for a whole month while leisurely refurbing the entire suspension. No problems at all.

For diagonal rotation I use two lift jacks and keep alternating until I've chased all four tires around.

Diagonal placement - penny wise/pound foolish. Get four.

I've never had problems using four. I get it up on all four corners, taking care to watch and feel all four points as it gets let down. Pay good attention. I push on the car to ensure it is sturdy and isn't going to fall over easily.

If jack placement is tight I've never felt it a problem to scoot the jack over some. It is steel, after all. Just be sure it won't slip.

I'm never complacent when working under a car. I'm always as careful as can be. I'm always reading of somebody that let it get the better of him, and I don't wish to be another story in the paper.

As many times as I've cheated the tall guy in the black robes, I don't want to turn around and give him a freebie.

If a vehicle is on the 4 jack stands, how much force would it need to topple? If I am not built like Arnie, is it possible for me to push from the back and get it to tip over?

Once it's up, give it a wobble and see if it'll tip. I sometimes do this as a check. Better to have it tip before you get under. Better yet, I throw a log or one of the wheels under the car for added safety.

Well what do you think the "iron" ion your total cereal is? Yes it is iron filings.
