Is top-tier gasoline still worth it?

I'm not going to pass an ExxonMobil Sunoco, or Chevron to save 5 cents a gallon.

In my area, many times ExxonMobil will be cheaper than Speedway.

My 24 Mazda 3 Turbo seems to have better response with Shell Premium. No Chevron or Mobil where I'm at. Sometimes I use Sam's Fuel for convenience.

Met a Mitsubishi factory representative from Japan. He advocated Top Tier and Premium fuel for better performance.

I prefer to use stations that are Top Tier. Whether it's QuikTrip, Chevron, Exxon/Mobil, or whatever else. For my truck, I don't care so much. Diesel is crap in the US, so I do my shopping at Kroger for the fuel points to save on fuel that way, and add Optilube XPD every fill up.

So I’ve always been one to purchase top tier gasoline for our vehicles, but I recently started a new job that has a much longer commute and I’ll be putting a lot more miles on my vehicle (23 Camry 2.5). We are members of Sam’s Club and that is close to my new job so I’m wondering if I should start taking advantage of the lower gas prices there or if it would still be worth it to use top tier gasoline in my vehicle since I do plan on keeping it long-term.

RaceTrac gas and a bottle of Techron once a year will be just fine.

BP is now TT+ rated. If you're an Amazon Prime member, you can use the Earnify app to save money on BP fuels. I consistently save $.10-.20 or more cents per gallon every time I fill up.

My Tacoma can tell. It doesn’t knock and ping … it seems to just know and changes shift points and throttle mapping. Marathon is ok. Shell is buttery smooth. Go 93 octane and the shift points are 500 rpm lower and torque response is in your face. There is no discernible difference in mpg. So it gets a lot of marathon and was getting some shell but we are currently on a bit tighter budget, so marathon.

Top Tier was developed to address intake valve deposits in a very small sample of models, which it apparently does.
Having never owned a really hi-po Chevy or BMW I've had no need of it.
For the cars and engines most of us have, Top Tier is no more than a feel good marketing scheme.
For the record, I'll buy it if it's on the way and price competitive, but I won't pay a premium nor go out of my way for it.

Never understood the obsession here on BITOG about TT gasoline.

Because it will keep your engine cleaner. That’s a fact. Why would you want your engine to be more dirty just to save a few pennies?

Or course, no issues with port injection. Did you every use injection cleaner on those high mileage vehicles? Also, do you own a GDI or GDI turbo currently?

It say TSI on a 18 VW Tiguan with turbo with 230k currently

With starting a new, longer commute, I suspect time and convenience will become your new concerns.
If the Sam’s is close, convenient, and a good price, I would go with that - from one long ‘work commuter’ to another!!

I run 711 gas because it's cheap I run a bottle of techron complete once a year before oil change
