Is top-tier gasoline still worth it?

Top Tier isn't an additive, but a cleanliness standard (intake valves?).
Obtained by an additive. Of which the non TT station may use the same additive and the same amount as we learned from a member here that actually delivers fuel.

And of course there are those that believe TT+ is even better at keeping GDI valves clean even though it never touches the valves.

Is TT fuel worth it? Depends 😁.

Lubrizol's new additive used in Kirkland Signature Top Tier + plus rated fuel is currently the only certified TT+ approved fuel. This has to meet a new test certification method for GDI engines along with the previous tests. It is advertised to have 5 times the detergent additive vs. minimum level in standard rated fuels. Sounds good to me.
Lubrizol is a top mfg. of additives. TT is better without a doubt. I use TT 95% of the time at negligible, or even no extra cost.

It is possible during valve overlap with VVT engine design that TT+ could influence deposit buildup on valves.

On the intake side the overlap is on the exhaust end - synthetic Atkinson / extend the stroke. So the additives need to survive the combustion process and be deposited there by the exhaust, and your still talking about a very small amount of the exhaust makes it up the intake plenum. The deposits are from PCV gases going the other direction.

Call me skeptical. If there was any evidence the TT+ would be pushing it hard and there not that I have seen - there simply claiming cleaner injectors.

Do what is best for your wallet.
If you are a Sam's member, take advantage of the cost difference.
Use the Sam's. Since you are in Fl., you have access to Chevron fuel.
Pick a # that works for you, say every 5th tank, you go to Chevron and fill up with Chevron.
Either that or stock up with Techron Fuel System Cleaner when AAP, AZ, or NAPA have a sale and use that every 5K.
I ran a commuter vehicle 275K on whatever was the low bid fuel at any given time. It got a container of Techron every 5K, and was running great when I sold it.
Many vehicles still operate properly, and life and commerce still proceed just fine on "unblessed" fuel, regardless of what the TTG would like everyone to believe.
When you can get TT at a good price, use it. Fill up at Sam's when you can't. Don't sweat the small stuff. Life is short.

However, what's the point of having a board if nobody can use it?
Just observing - not complaining. Likely there is a reason for this.

On other Auto boards I see a lot more old threads being re-opened / commented on. That doesn't seem to happen here much - most start a new thread. A lot of old threads get closed.

On other Auto Boards there is often a "dumb question" thread that goes on perpetually - where you can ask a simple question and get a pretty quick answer without starting a whole new thread.

Still, there doesn't seem to be an excess of threads here. Duplicates to a degree but they all have some different angle.

When posting ceases so does the forum. A dead forum is about impossible to revive...

I never had an issue with redundancy on my forums.
If you micro manage your members they go away... sometimes that's good but generally not so good..

Turmoil certainly kills donations

I appreciate that. My comment was in no way aimed at you.
My point is that if one is going to have a forum and encourage people to join and participate in it, is that those who participate in it should be able to ask questions, within bounds, without being stifled.

I don’t care if gas is TT or not.

Never understood the obsession here on BITOG about TT gasoline.
Your on an obsessed forum so why would TT gasoline be any different
Because Top Teir and TT+ implies more betterer. All of us obsessed group strive to be more betterer anyway so why not?

The one Costco by on my way home, gas is open at 7:30am when I drive buy on way home from work. I'm not sure what time the gas actually opens. Costco not open until 9am for executive membership, 10am regular. My last 5 fill ups there was 5 cars or less for the 24 pumps so no line.

Other considerations - get a gas card for one of the stations that may be TT. My Exxon/Mobil card takes 15 cents off the credit price (5 cents off the cash price). I pay that in full end of month, no interest. My BP and Shell cards do the same, 5 cents off cash price. Might help if you need to monetize the amounts for taxes. I know people that use just American Express for that reason plus the rewards points.

I just saw at Costco they do extra cash back if you use their branded card. I think 5% for gas, less for other stuff.

If you can't get or don't want to spend for TT then as everyone says, find a good high volume place that might have been redone recently. We have one guy by us that owns so many gas stations of Shell, BP, Exxon/Mobil. I passed 3 lately that he tore down, new tanks, new building/pumps under his BOLLA brand. High volume, clean, Tim Hortons in them, Burger King in some, Buffalo wild wings coming to a new one. He of course also has his own cards with whatever deals. I might get one, his cash price today was $3.69, with my Exxon card discounts I paid $3.74 but that was for my daughters car. Drive 10 miles to save 60 cents not really worth it. If I'm passing that's different.

Yes I know betterer is not a real word, dad used to joke with it and I'm getting older everyday.
