Nope, that came from my actual car the following morning after I let it sit overnight.Above photo looks like oil on a dip stick below pic looks like the dip stick was dipped right into the bottle

I think the oil on my photo is a little farther away from the top hole on the dipstick.Do these seem about the same to you?

Well that's a relief, thank you! According to the receipt there were only 4.7 quarts of oil put in the car after the oil was drained.Seriously it will not be a problem. At all.
When your engine starts, the drawdown in the sump takes the volume of oil (as measured) lower than the tip of the dipstick.
Some might even say it's better. Either way, drive and don't worry.
I'm seeing that you're in the Raleigh Durham area. Do you have suggestions on where I can/should go to have it checked? I got this done at a Valvoline in your area.Yes, to much oil, have them fix it.
I was asking about the color and translucence in response to the commentI think the oil on my photo is a little farther away from the top hole on the dipstick.
Well that was the color of the full synthetic Valvoline oil they put in my car yesterday afternoon.I was asking about the color and translucence in response to the comment
"I have never seen oil that clear even a fresh oil change. looks like pure gold"
in post #8 in this thread. The comment was quoted in my post.
I don’t think it is pointed straight up. Looks to be horizontal, unless OP is standing on a wall.
To OP…it is probably fine. As mentioned earlier, they probably an extra quart.
If it were mine, I’d take it back and have them dump it and refill to the proper level with new oil.
I agree, that's what I did! I let the car sit overnight and then popped the hood to check the oil and that's the reading I got. I have driven approximately 36 miles since the oil was put in and even took it back to Valvoline today to have them check it but they were quite firm that they only added 4.7 qts of oil in the car as it's called for. They were shaking their heads in curiosity as to why there was a problem. The best way to get the oil level in the engine is early in the morning before you go to work. Take the dip stick out of the engine. What ever you see on the dip stick that is the exact oil level
Thank you!Unless the oil change shop is not convenient, I would take the car back and have them fix the oil level. You shouldn't have to deal with it. After all, isn't that the reason you took your car there in the first place, for your convenience?
If it were my car, I'd be getting the level corrected.
BTW, welcome to BITOG, LDJ.
Now I'm confused. The way I'm looking at the picture, it appears that the dipstick is being held parallel to the garage floor, that is, horizontal.
The big question is will it hurt my vehicle?Thank you!
It will not.The big question is will it hurt my vehicle?
It’s way too high, but the filter idea is a great tip. It's high. But it's running fine. I'd ignore it.
If worried, maybe just spin off the oil filter and put a new one on. I bet that would cut the overage in half (does the manual say it's 1 full quart between the marks? want to say, on one of my cars, it was 0.7qt or something like that).
YesThe big question is will it hurt my vehicle?
How?
Agreed. Time to contact the dealer and get a quote on a new long block!!It's totalled.
I would contact VIOC corporate and share your concerns and pictures.I agree, that's what I did! I let the car sit overnight and then popped the hood to check the oil and that's the reading I got. Top end seepage, hydrolock, mechanical interference, blowby, fouling. This dipstick showed a pretty severe overfill situation and there is no need whatsoever to live with it, amirite? How?
Then why is there such a curve on the edge of the oil?Given the feet in the background I would say the camera is pointed down and the dipstick is horizontal.
