Is there any reason why I shouldn't use Mobil1 EP 5w30 in my new Troy-Bilt Honda GCV160??

I used the factory supplied oil for about 1.5 hours, then dumped it and refilled with Mobil1 EP 5w30. I plan on running that for about 2-3 hours, then dump/refill with the same oil. Sound like a good plan??

Nice little mower, I gotta say.

What did the oil look like when you dumped it? Mine had lots of metal flake...had to change it 3 times before it came out clean. Be careful not to overfill it. I did and had some oil seepage at the governor arm. I'm now using Trop Artic 10w30. With Mobil 1 I don't know if there's much of a difference between 5w and 10w30, but I think 10w30 is recommended. Yes, it is a nice little mower.

That M1 should be just fine in you Honda engine. My Craftsman purchased in 2000 has that engine, and I changed out the 30W oil that came with it at 5 hours, as instructed. Since then , it has had M1 5W30, changed yearly, except for one year when I tried M1 OW30. Engine has never burned more that a sixteenth of an inch off the dipstick in a year's use, which averages a little over 60 hours. (I have an hour meter on this engine).

I change the oil every March, having used the mower frequently during the winter for leaf bagging and yard cleanup. I also have winter grass in a portion of my yard. Anyway, I have had this mower for 6 years, and the present oil has 24 hours on it, with no consumption. The oil has never looked dirty, and I have considered a couple of times running it for two years, but I always break down and change it every year. This past March, it was changed with 64.7 hours on it.

Honda doesn't say much about using synthetic rather than regular dino, but the Briggs & Stratton website recommends against using dino multigrades, stating that excessive consumption could result. B&S sells a 5W30 synthetic under their own brand name, recommending it for all temperatures.

I have a GC160 Honda on a pressure washer...

I changed out the OEM oil within 5hrs, refilled with more OEM oil, and changed it out again after 5hrs.

After that, it was normal OCI's for me.

Your plan sounds great.
