Is this a thick/thin 5W30?

A little on the "thick" side. Mobil 1 5w30 is around 9.8 cSt @ 100°C. I'm surprised the HT/HS isn't better, though. Mobil 1 10w30 and 5w30 are both thinner than this oil at 100°C, yet their HT/HS numbers are about the same: 3.2. This is not an A3 rated oil, that's for sure. What is it?

I suspect this oil is going to shear (possibly out of grade) rather rapidly. I hope you'll do a UOA and post it. The results should be interesting.

Wasn't there some speculation, though, that a lower VI tended to correspond to a lesser amount of VIIs, thereby potentially allowing for greater shear stability? Or do I have that backwards?

That is my theory, but it only pertains to fully synthetic (PAO/ester) oils. Not conventionals, and not blends.

Just spoke to LE and 5W30 not imported. 10W30 Monolec Ultra-Blend is but A$90 for 5-litres. Hmmm BP Visco 5000 5W40 PAO is only A$129 for 20-litre drum, I'm having second thoughts.
