Is this a "Great" plan, or not?

I am intending to change the engine oil from "Fram and Pennzoil" to " Amsoil filters and Mobil 1 5w30"1
Vehicle is : 1999 Toyota Tacoma V6, TRD, ext cab, Auto.
80,000 miles and has had the filter and oil changed at 3,000 miles (FIRM)! Have never had to add oil whatsoever. But, I love this truck and want the best for it.
I intend to change the oil every 9,000 miles and the filter every 4500 (Mobil 1 5w30 and Ams Oil filters).
If you see a problem with this procedure, please correct me and supply realistic instructions.

I have a 2003 Tundra with 13500 and currently use Mobil 1 and it does great. If you are not sure you can always have a Used Oil Analysis done at the midway point after the first change and that will give a better idea of how the oil is doing and how much longer it can be used. Those engines are great and should last a long time and even longer with Mobil 1. Maybe someone has some more advice but I am happy with the Mobil 1. I also have a bypass filter so I hope it will last for another 10 years.

Just wonder if you want to run a cleaning cycle through before the M1. Maybe an AutoRx treatment/rinse cycle or a Neutra purge (Schaeffer's). The AutoRx will take about 3000 miles total for the whole process, whereas the Neutra can be thrown in for the last 500 miles of the current change. Otherwise the first load of M1 may dirty up quicker as it could do some cleaning on it's own, which is just another way to do it I guess.

Don't forget the Pep Boys buy 3 get 3 M1 coupons in the Pep Boys "Cool Cars" calendars ($1 each).

I don't believe this particular Toyota engine design is susceptible to sludge. Toyota experts will correct me if I'm wrong.

Save some money on the filter and use a Pure One or Wix filter with a silicone ADBV.

Pick a good oil, a good filter or oversized filter, and change both at a reasonable interval.
Driving styles vary.
Without a used oil analysis, it would be wrong to recommend timely OCI's.

Use the Mobil 1, change the oil and filter at least twice a year or
Don't bother with the filter only changes and topoffs.

You are corrct 427Z06. The V6 engines in the trucks are a different design than the 3.0L sludgers and they have 6+ quarts oil capacity so they aren't prone to sludge problems.

To the OP, if I was using a stock size oil filter I'd run the stock Denso filter from the Toyoya parts department. They look to be higher quality than most of the aftermarket stuff you see at Walmart or Autoparts stores.

The factory OCI is 7500 miles for non-severe service. I doubt you'd have any problems using M1 and sticking with that interval for both oil and filter...

Jsharp, good advice, except for the filter. I am a firm believer in good filters. Lousy filtering systems in the US is one of the main reasons Japanese imports tore up US products. Now the US is playing catch up!
I keep hearing the "WIC" name come up in filters. Is there any real world evidence that these are good, and better than M1, and Ams Oil, other than someone's experience?

Really? I thought it was just better engineering.
Japan basically started from scratch after WWII, while US makers were content to stay with 1930's technology.

Wix is the name you are hearing. They are good filters and also come with the NAPA Gold and CarQuest Premium paint jobs.

The OEM Toyota filters are very good. My best friend (who's a Toyota nut) won't use anything but them. He knows they work.
