My wife's TT hasn't been run much this winter so it has 2000 miles and 7 months on the oil change. I'm thinking it's time to change the oil, but why can't I leave the filter in there? It's a PureOne and with only 2K miles, it hasn't been used much.

Is there a time limit on filters so it's not a good idea to leave it in for more than six months?... Oil soaked media or something like that?

my saab is set up to be able to do up to 18k mile OCIs. The system logic also performs a 2-year countdown. On a cartridge filter at least, with a green-rubber (different type perhaps than is standard ona run of the mill filter) gasket, 2-years is possible. Not necessarily preferred, but 2yr/18k miles must be the design window, so thus likely more than that even.

A year is certainly doable. Id likely not go much beyond that, as youll build up condensation, etc.

With those miles accumulated, once a year is good enough for both filter and oil - as long as the engine gets to normal temperatures regularly - plus not all city-like/stop and go miles driven.
