Is the VW 2.0 TFSI(EA113) hard on oil?

Hi guys,

You guys frequently talk about engines being hard on oil. So I like to know any opinions if the EA113 is hard on oil, it is a DI turbo engine with a cam belt, but it does have a small cam chain in the back of the head. The exhaust cam is driven by the belt and then drives the intake with a chain.

I do use Euro speced oil and do more or less half than specified OCI so i dont think it will be any issues related to that. Something else will probably ruin the engine before the oil.

happy to hear any opinions!

(did't really know which catergory to post in so guessed)

do you smell fuel in the oil on the dipstick or when opening the filler?
Have not smelt anything out of the ordinary when checking the oil. (Which I don’t do very often because it doesn’t burn any oil at the moment)

Mann filter, 502 oil, 5k oci and you’ll be fine. Check/replace the cam follower though

Just posting to bring awareness to checking the fuel pump cam follower on your engine. It is routine maintenance and an expensive fix if not checked.

Want to elaborate why 502 vs 504? The manual says that both can be used.
Ah you are in Sweden.
504.00 is low SAPS oil. It only comes in 0W30 and 5W30. It is better for IVD, but I think EA113 in EU has bit less of IVD issues bcs. different ignition.
But EA113 is a big fuel diluter, so I would stick to heavier oils. If you want something that is close to VW504.00, go oils that have VW511.00 approval which are XW40.

504 supersedes 502 and can be used on engines stickered 502. But your engine and emissions system doesn't require it.

You can save money running 502 and have a full SAPS oil. Or, if you find 504 on sale somewhere, you can run 504 (low SAPS) and feel all warm and fuzzy knowing you're running extremely high quality base oil, I guess.

The two specifications are very similar in performance standards and viscosity. For instance, 504 is 0w30/5w30 only, whereas 502 accepts up to 0w40/5w40. In reality, both specifications have a minimum HTHS of 3.5cP and viscosities are all very similar in application regardless of what is on the bottle.

Have just ordered 5 liters of SHU ECT 0W-30 the other day. Will look into the 511 oils for next time.

It was on sale and oil isn’t cheap here :)

ECT is an exceptional oil. I know it is not cheap, I am originally from Europe.
Last year I bought ECT to top off my brothers E220cdi, and I think it was like 12-13 euros for liter.

Looked up which 511 oils I could get and only two options, the M1 ESP X4 0W-40 or the Castrol Edge 5W-40 M. The M1 seems like the better oil.
