Still a good filter? I'm thinking about going with these once my currently supply of Fram TG's is gone. I bought out all the ones they had when TSC clearanced them but there's no other places to get them locally now, TSC now carries junk Purolator filters instead of Fram! Napa Gold's can be had for around the same price and are easy to come by here. Are they a decent filter or should I stay away and just order a case of TG's online? Also are they good for a 7500-10000 mile oci? Thanks in advance!

NAPA Golds are still very good filters, a lot better than the TG IMO. They use a blended media, so they aren't going to last 20k like a Fram Ultra, but I think that 10k is pretty safe. I have a NAPA Gold on hand that I will use for my next oil change in the Corvette actually.

Jongles
No need to buy a case of Fram TGs. I buy four filters at a time from rockauto.

Why? The TG is more efficient and rated to 10K miles. Yeah, it has non-metal end caps but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I previously thought the TG used a pure cellulose media and finding out that it's also a blended media like the NAPA Gold does change my opinion of them slightly, but I still have a hard time with those fiber end caps, I just don't think they'll provide the same level of durability of metal ones to go 10k.

There is nothing wrong with Napa Gold or Wix

But this month, Napa has the Platinum on sale for $8.99. Napa Platinum is Wix XP

Doesn't the Gold/Regular Wix have a higher effeciency rating than the Platinum/XP though? Or something like that.

Yep, the regular WIX/NAPA Gold is more efficient than the XP/NAPA Platinum. Some people don't care, whatever they want to run is up to them.

Yep some of us want more flow and that's what the Platinum and XP provides. K&N Premium also. I've begun using any of those three during the six month winter period here in Michigan. Then choose a higher efficiency filter (regular Wix / TG....etc) for the other six month OCI.

Napa Golds and Fram TGs are generally fine for 12K. Member Car51 is about to dissect a Fram TG that may have as many as 24K on it.

How much longer is the wait Adam?

How do you know? We've seen plenty of examples of high efficiency filters with good flow numbers (tested with numbers). Never seen any real "Flow vs PSID" data for the XP/Platinum.

And with a PD oil pump, a few PSI differece between filters isn't going to matter unless you're revving the engine to redline at cold starts in the winter. And in that case, the filter's bypass valve will probably open before the oil pump hits pressure relief.

The three filter brands/models I mentioned are designed / aligned with racing / high performance.

WIX XP and NAPA Platinum are not advertised as 'racing filters' ... just long OCI filters like any other full synthetic media oil filter. Really need to see "Flow vs PSID" data to verify flow performance. Guessing on how a filter flows isn't very confirming. Could be one reason the XP and Platinum aren't so efficient is because the delta-p is pretty high which sloughs off captured debris. Don't know what's really going on without actual flow performance data.
