Is the Fuel Cell Vehicle a Disruptive Technology?

Those pushing the hydrogen or hydrogen fuel cells basically work from the whole "renewable energy" concept. That's why there is a campaign, an a successful one at that, to promote the renewables as not only zero emission, but also as cheap sources of energy. After all sun shine and wind are free.

If you accept that all, or vast majority of energy is produced from those, assumed to be cheap renewables, then it does not matter how inefficient hydrogen production really is, because if you use a bunch of "virtually free" energy, you still end up with cheap hydrogen as fuel for vehicles.
It's the same concept behind sugar free sweeteners, like aspartame. It's sweet and has no calories, so it really does not matter how much or little of it you consume. It's all good. Except nobody wants to talk about those pesky little details, like aspartame being a poison and causing all sorts of problems when consumed in big enough quantities. But hey, it will not immediately kill you and the symptoms will be similar to other illnesses and FDA gave it a green light, so it must be good.

The renewables are being pushed and defended by a lot of people in the same way. The pesky little details, like storage, shutting down of the coal and nuke plants, using expensive gas or oil peakers, etc. are being ignored or heavily played down. Instead it is argued that governments, cities, small towns around the world are using it so it must be good. Our own gov approves it as well, so yeah, it's all good.

One positive of Fuel Cell Vehicle is it can be used as power generator in case of emergency.

Quote:
In emergency need situations, the Clarity Fuel Cell and its on-board hydrogen and fuel cell stack can be utilized as an emergency generator. A lightweight external power supply not unlike a standard generator can be employed for this. The Power Exporter 9000 takes the Clarity’s power output and converts it to usable standard AC power for a home or office. According to Honda, a fully-fueled Clarity could power the average home for about a week.
