Hello,

I'm looking for an oil filter for my 2016 Mazda 3 for next oil change. Winter is almost here in so I figure out it's time for a winter oil change! I found a premium guard extended performance filter for sale at Amazon for 12 dollars which are few bucks cheaper then Fram Ultra, NAPA Gold and Mobil 1, plus I don't have to wait for them goes on sale (note the price is Canadian dollar). I've seen some good reviews online about this filter and Scotty Kilmer also recommend it. Anyone use this filter before? What are your thoughts?

Some additional info: My OCI is unknown for this oil change since I used to use conventional oil pair up with Fram extra guard. I'm looking for the best filter while not hurting my wallet too much. Where I live the temperature can go down to -40c in winter so a good filter is critical in cold start protection.

Check ebay you can get the Ultra's for around 4.50 each if you purchase 6. Depends on application.

After reading about the higher bypass pressure of the OE filter I decided not to use aftermarket. Im afraid the aftermarket might go into bypass more than it should.

WIX 57002 is specially designed for Skyactiv engine. But there's no WIX XP version of it. I use XP all the time in my trucks at winter and never had a problem starting.

The Premium Guard filters are very good quality... 98%@ 20 microns... Synthetic media and use a silicone ADBV and a silicone gasket... Which would be great down to -40°C... These filters look great when cut open. I have run a Premium Guard on the lady's Camry for 10k miles.. these are well built.

Does Fram make a Skyactiv-specific filter? Does PG make one?

If not, get the Wix 57002

Do they have Black Friday/Vendredi Noir in Canada?

The description on amazon doesn't state it's synthetic. But, it may be as bbhero stated! Has silicon gasket. 99@25 microns, same as Royal Purple. Has great reviews. Seams like a great filter, it's made in Korea. (That country doesn't exist) But, I prefer the Ultra (USA) with dual layer (deep filtration) wired backed media. I believe FU XG6607 fits your app. That is my preference for my application. Everyone is different. Safe travels

Good idea... I couldn't find any Wix filter in my local parts store, I also don't wanna pay $20 for a filter at dealer
