Got my oil change this morning Castrol Full Syn 10w-30
2003 AP1 S2000 F20C, used synthetic her whole life

Washed my car, and went to go vacumn, ping heard the drain plug let go.

I was going about 20mph engine under very light load, drove about 500ft and immediately pulled over shut the engine down. Got out engine oil was pouring out from below, they didn't tighten the bolt down! The engine was off and oil was still coming out of the engine.
Long story short, oil replaced/filter have documentation stating what happened from dealership and are warrantying my engine for 3000 miles in case something happened.

1. Drove 500 ft , no oil light came on, shut engine down.
2. Engine is running perfect with new oil in, no weird noises our rough vibrations.

My friend who races his S2000 at TWS and other tracks said an engine will go alot further without oil then it will without water, and he wouldn't worry at all cause the synthetic coats the surfaces real well, and there was still plenty of oil in the engine.

What do you guys think console me, the car runs fine now and I beat the **** out of it, I assume if something was going to let go it would have on my 30 mile drive home, I have heard of worse things happening to a Honda motor and they live long lives.

I drove the car very hard today 9000rpms, oil temperatures fine, no weird noises, no vibrations, all is well.

well, as log as the oil plug never popped off then your probably going to be fine. But I'd be [censored]!

The oil plug did pop off at which time, I slowed from like 20mph to 10mph and within a few hundred feet shut it down, and there was still alot of oil pouring out when I stopped her, and when we took the oil filter off there was plenty of oil in there as well.

Thats what happens when a $7 per hour lube tech get a hold of an S2000.

If you were on the highway and your engine blew up, the dealership would deny its their fault.

When it comes to oil changes,DIY is the only way to go,period.

Understood, whats done is done, but as far as the engine..if something was [censored] up I would hear it, feel it, smell it. And it sure as [censored] wouldn't run so smooth as it does now right? The oil was still pouring out when I shut it off..

You'll probably be okay.

All you can do is wait and see.

I'm pretty paranoid about stuff like this though.

Freud would say there aren't any accidents.

I bet the grease monkey had an envy problem that manifested itself in him not tightening your plug.

He's got nothing to loose. His old lady left him and his '75 Civic with the aero kit needs new rings. He also knows he'll be working somewhere else next month.

I agree with changing your own and hopefully after this you will start doing your own. I dobut any damage was done especially since the filter was full and there was still oil coming out. However I would not be happy with just a 3000 mile warranty. There would have to be some serious damage for you to see it within that short of time. JMHO.

No damage is probable. I really think that the engine is just fine, given your situation.
But I would pursue making the lobotomized caveman who failed in his simple task to pay for clean up, any new oil, and FUTURE engine problems. Things may not show up for a while, and very valid arguments are that even though nothing is wrong now, what MIGHT occur because of this, and how much less life your engine is going to have!
In other words, bring your picture and get something in writing from them, and/or get legal advice to cover your derrier.

You're good. You caught it before any damage could occur. Let this serve as your warning: NEVER get your oil changed by anyone other than yourself. Your car will love you for taking care of it, and in turn you will be given complete obedience and devotion. Sort of like women and dogs. Well, dogs at least.

Unless you mess up while doing it yourself, then you'll have no one to blame.

Sad to say I always can't do it myself as "I'm older and as the weather gets colder it get's tougher to do". So for those times I found a real good local shop. They are not cheap but not overpriced and I trust their work. Besides their shop forman was a client of mine

.

I bring my own oil and filter. It's no less expensive than if they used their Napa oil and filter but I feel better having control over what goes in my vehicles.

Ironically the local fast lube places charge more for their oil changes than my local shop.

Whimsey

Sounds like the Dealer did his oil change guys not a oil lube place. Since they are warranty his engine for 3k of miles.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the oil light didn't come on and oil was pouring out of it you were still pumping oil into the motor.

I would be hot though!

Like a few others said, it's going to be OK. If you never saw an oil light, your engine never knew the oil was draining out. In addition, oil was still running out by the time you got out to take a look. Tell us again how you knew the plug dropped out???

When my 77 LUV was new, my wife drove it across town after the oil filter gasket popped and let all the oil out. Still have the truck and wife.

I heard the "ping" looked in my rearview and seen it hit the road within a few hundred feet shut the engine down asap.
