Is it hard to find a good filter with open louvers?

Just like I suggested by looking down the center tube ... it would be the only way to verify without cutting it open.
I think this one was one of the neatest looking filters I've seen. I actually had to take a good long look at it before i saw the glue. The mobile one filter has an entire perimeter of glue at the bottom. It's my understanding this glue isn't supposed to go anywhere, so not sure what's up with motorcraft using soft glue that comes off.

Cost cutting move to put people's motors in jeopardy. Can't believe their engineers let stuff like that happen. :cautious: Ford should put the hammer down or find a new supplier.

I heard they've had a ton of recalls across the board in the last couple years

Have you seen Ford's own quality record lately? Ford likely dictated it - we need to save an additional 0.0001 cents.
I'm not really happy with any of the oil filters these days. The fram ultras that are supposed to be good, have lots of defects too. Small holes in the base plate. Occassionally you'll fine one with like 6 larger holes

Nothing wrong with the base plate holes ... it doesn't really matter. But the Ultras today are not like the OG Ultra was and suffer from leaf springs made in the ruffles factory.

I have several xg4967 oil filters I run on my commercial ope. They all look real nice with open louvers. Bought them a few years back. 3 or 4 years probably
They might be OG Ultras with the wire backed media. Need to look through the louvers to find out.

I'm just glad this motorcraft thing got pointed out before the filter was installed. This was going to go on my boat engine that's a relatively new drop in sbc chevy that's about $12k if you had to replace it with all the marine related stuff that go along with it.

I thought the frams were dark blue at one point and they switched to these gold colored filters. Was that the OG time?
Ultras were never dark blue.
The FRAM Endurance and Purolator One filters are painted dark blue.

That same guy on youtube shows the mobile 1 extended performance filters have that same soft black glue.
