Is Fram's Tough Guard now their best filter?

Fiber end caps do make for a good seal on the leaf spring. When they are cut open for inspection, you can clearly see the 100% seal impression in the end cap.
Looks like a bunch have left the market - my PF63E’s have - the SuperTech’s have - etc …

I opened up a Fram Extra Guard to see how well the leaf spring sealed against the fiber end cap here:

Even with a flat leaf spring and fiber end cap, the seal is not perfect, but it is far better than the rippled leaf springs.
If manufactured correctly, it should look like this one and seal correctly, as shown here:

Have you come to a conclusion from your original question?

Not really.

I was thinking about the Tough Guard because the 15,000 mile rating matches 2 annual oil changes of 7500 miles. I previously ran the OG Ultra for almost 20k miles and almost 4 years and it looked fine when I cut it open.

I currently have a new style Ultra on and will cut it open in several months time to help decide. If Fram quality and ability to trust their mileage ratings are still in doubt, I am thinking the Purolator Boss is a good option for a multi year / multi OCI filter.

Looked hard for PF63E’s … found 3 on eBay … will use them whilst following along here …
Also got a couple MP10575’s from eBay …

TG is probably the best filter you can get for about $8. If I'm wrong let me know.
*Anyone opposed OR have uncertainty , lack of confidence , etc. to using a TG for two 5K OCI’s with synthetic oil in a well maintained engine ?

Nope, I would run that confidently, since it is what Honda recommends with their filters which are essentially Tough Guards with blue paint.

I was never that comfortable with Fram PH or TG for extended use due to lack of precision in construction. Recently there have been bad examples across all of Fram's products so that rules them all out for me but I think it makes PH and TG particularly bad choices.

If you can find OG XG, then I think that is the best bet.

I've run several TG cartridge style filters for 20k and they looked good. Harder to hide poor quality without the metal can coverage though.

I wouldn’t put a Fram on my 8 year old lawnmower. There are many oil filters that are much better, such as Wix, Mobil 1, Hastings, etc…You can never go wrong with OEM AC Delco, Motorcraft, Mopar..etc.

In light of the leaf spring gap in the FE and XG, is the Tough Guard now Fram's best filter?
Since your post consists of TWO questions I’ll answer the first shown in the quote…
“NO”.
You already know which one I think is though 😉.
