Hi All!

New to this forum, but not to forums! First off, I'm from Calgary Alberta (go Flames!)

, and I'm hoping there's a few other of us Igloo dwellers on this site.

I have a question a few of us have been discussing at dieselram.com

We are 99.99999% sure the refiner for Canadian Tire's 15W40 Diesel Oil is Shell, but more importantly, IS THE OIL IN THEIR "HOUSE" BRAND A ROTELLA PRODUCT? And if so, anyone know WHICH ROTELLA?

When I worked at Esso many moons ago, the packaging plant at the Strathcona refinery would make Cdn Tire Bottles / jugs etc and used the same oil that went into Esso's name brand products. The contract was then awarded to Shell a few years ago.

FYI...Cdn Tire's 15W40 Diesel is labelled as an API CI-4 oil (specifically states "EXCEEDS API CI-4"). It also meets the 20078 Cummins spec (the latest spec from Cummins designed for EGR equipped engines and the associated soot issues with many new diesels) as well as Mack's E-OM, and a bunch of CAT, ALLISON, FORD diesel specs blah blah blah.

A few of us are really curious to confirm if it is indeed Rotella. My Dodge is in the "severe" category; we like to change oil and filters (FleetGuard filters only) every 5000km.

At $29.99 for 20L for the house brand, it's a pretty sweet good deal if it's Rotella with a different package!

Thanks all, and great website!

ps Is Doug Hillary human? I dunno...I think he's a Computer gone insane somewhere in Australia's Outback...

VOA is virgin oil analysis, it's when you send off the new oil straight out of the bottle for testing. Then you can compare it to a VOA of Rotella to see if the composition is similar or not.
