iPhone users/screen protector?

Do you all use screen protectors,or just a case? Or both? I got an iPhone 7 today,but didn't buy a screen protector. Apple says with the glass they use on them,a screen protector isn't necessary but more of a preference.

Who here that has these uses a screen protector? Thanks in advance!
 
I had my 4S for 5 1/2 years in an Otterbox Defender and never had an issue. I actually went through 2 Otterboxes and 3 silicone jackets in the phone's life. I replaced it with a 7+ and have that one in an Otterbox Defender as well.
 
The thin tempered glass ones are the best. They install faultlessly each time unlike the soft ones. They will protect it from scratches more than breakage. They are incredibly cheap on ebay and Walmart website, for example. No reason not to use one.
 
I'd say use one as long as it doesn't affect the visual clarity of the screen.

And as long as the screen protector doesn't do its own damage the the screen.

I have a ballistic glass screen protector on my last 4 iphones, they don't have air bubbles, easy to install and do not interfere with touch functions, you cant even see it even after 4 years (don't use the 4S anymore but it still works). I had a 6 but couldn't stand the size of it so now the SE 128gb, much better for me.
I had the Otterbox defender and didn't like that at all and quickly got rid of it, the Otterbox Symmetry works much better.

One consideration is the iPhone relies on the screen for cooling. When I switched to a glass protector then my iPhone would be noticeably hot to the touch so I swapped for a thin and flexible screen protector and the temperature dropped back down.

It may have been the particular brand I was using; however, it is something to watch for.

I still use a screen protector because the iPhone glass can still suffer scratches.

The screen would cool the phone by radiation and I can't see how one transparent cover would make any difference over another.

Where have you seen that the screen is the primary cooling venue for the phone?

Is this 7 a change from a previous model? You will find that the rounded corners on the 7 make the phone pretty much like a bar of soap, ready to squirt out of your hand at the slightest provocation. I love how it feels with no case but that is a disaster waiting to happen.

Sprint sold me some expensive case which was worthless (LifeProof). You can't sweep up from the bottom due to the case coming up too far onto the screen. I took that one back eventually and got an Otterbox which works properly. It has a screen protector too, I don't see any reason not to use one. A good one applied properly is pretty much invisible.
 
I'd get a case and a glass screen protector. Since I've used that combo I have yet to break a screen. My sister got s new iPhone 7 plus and dropped it once on the tile the day after she got it and it shattered the screen.
 
The glass screen protectors use a very thin layer of clear silicone as adhesive. They actually do absorb some of the energy from a drop. The glass sheet is somewhat sacrificial. When my son was younger he dropped his iPhone 5c often. We went through a lot of screen protectors, but the phone was always fine. I like them because they often have a slicker feel than the phone's own screen. And, when the oleophobic coating starts to get worn you can just replace the screen protector to have that new screen feel again.
 
Like a lot of member here, I have used the tampered glass screen protector without any issue since IP 4S, IP 5 and Now IP6/6+ plus all my IPads.
It never have any issue with the functionality and provide great protection from fall that can shatter the screen.
The real IPhone screen is very fragilie despite what Apple said about it.

I bought cheap ones from Ebay with seller that shipped from US.
I think there is a range starting at $3 for IP7/7+.
For IP6, it is a little cheaper starting at $2.
All from US based vendor so it will get to you faster.

For casing, I check with slickdeals and they usually post case from Amazon with discount code.
Usually starts at $2 or so with a good double layer case (silicon and TPU combo).
It is a lot thinner than the Otterbox and provided enough protection.

It boils down to this: how careful are you with your phone? Do you have bad habits like putting it in a pocket full of keys and coins? Do you routinely drop your phone or engage in activities where it can easily fall out of your pocket?

If so, then yes, you may want to get a screen protector. The glass screen is fairly resilient but it is not indestructible.

At the very least, everyone should have some sort of case, even if it's a relatively thin one like the OEM leather one. This will give you better grip, hold it in your pocket better, and protect against minor damage from drops or sliding it across a table top.
 
If you bought it with your credit card and request loss/damage protection I believe its free if you do it with either 30 or 90 days..can't remember.
 
I just use a plastic screen protector, and it gets marked up pretty good but never seems to interfere with using the screen. Would anyone keep an unprotected phone in their pocket with a set of keys? I find if I'm working on stuff one pocket will end up with some metal stuff, and the other has my keys so that's the one my phone shares.

Funny these things, its an unlocked phone in mint condition, not one mark and very little use and they offer $39 trade in. It gets the 10 second microwave treatment and hammer before I let them have it for that.
 
I use a glass screen protector they sell at Dollar Tree on my iPhone 6+. Works FANTASTIC! I've been going for almost six months on this one dollar glass protector and its still scuffless, and I'm really really hard on my phone.

You still need to get the screen very clean. The smallest speck of lint or dust will be visible. But, they are much easier to install than the plastics ones. The adhesive is kind of like static cling. It's literally a layer of something like silicone laminated to the back of the glass. It stays completely clear and peels off totally clean as well. I always recommend buying at least two because it's not uncommon to mess one up while installing.
