When I turn on my iPhone 4's Passcode Lock feature, I'm given options to require it Immediately, After 1 Minute, After 5 Minutes, or After 15 Minutes. My wife has the same phone but hers has additional options including an After 4 Hours option. I can't figure out why I don't have those. Same phone, same carrier, same version of iOS, but different options?

Weird, my verizon iphone 4 running iOS6 does show the 4 hour option. Just noticed theres a new software update too by the way, 6.01

Many reasons. Example , if you have a MS Exchange mail account configured you will not have the 4 hour option. Am guessing you have a company issued phone

Ah, so that would be it. While my phone is not issued by my employer, I do have it configured to connect to a Microsoft Exchange server whereas my wife's phone is not. So that explains it.

Seems kind of stupid though. Why would Exchange remove the longer time options when I can have the passcode lock option turned off completely?

Security is the reason.

My Motorola Xoom tablet made me assign a screen lock password when I setup a VPN connection, there was no way around it.

I get the security aspect. I just find it odd that it limits you to the timeout options but still allows you to leave the passcode off. The Find Friends app requires you to log in to it each time if you don't have passcode option enabled. I find it annoying (which is why I wanted the 4 hour timeout option) but it at least makes more sense than what Exchange is doing. My employer is switching off exchange to Google Enterprise Email within the next couple of weeks, so I guess that'll solve this issue.

that reminds me; my Find Friend is not able to find friend any more for me :-( This started happening as of last week and I have not changed anything and I have already rebooted the iPhone and updated the application. I get "Location Not Available" message.

Not that any smartphone connect to Exchange via ActiveSync gives the Exchange administrator the option to remotely wipe your phone no matter if you own it or not. Enjoy!

You can connect to Gmail via Exchange/Active sync methods for business accounts.

Employers only want to move to iPhones and Androids if they provide security features that Blackberry had.

Precisely. This has been a fun project for me with our now mixed ecosystem at our office, as we used to be 100% RIM based and security was incredibly easy to manage.

Well, not really. All it did was change things so that I now have the 1 hour option too. When I questioned it, I was told they'd be looking into it in Q1. On a side note, so far I'm not impressed with Gmail as a business solution.
