Well, we have only owned her for about 6-7 weeks, but she already left us stranded. Just the facts, ma'am...

Car is daily driven by my bride - mostly in EV mode, as we are still on the first tank of gas
Ran to a local retailer - about a 20 minutes from home, bride driving.
Ran into store, in less than 15 minutes out again...jumped in and the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree
Turn it off, open all doors...wait 10 seconds, close doors...try again...same thing - main error was "Propulsion Error"
Asked my bride to put it in 'D' and see what happens...IC engine fires, but sounds wrong. I ask her to slowly drive around and see what happens. We can only hit a max of about 25 mph...I guess this is called turtle mode.
Call Volvo from the car. They read the codes, tell us it needs to be towed. Car is towed and we are uberd home in less than 45 minutes (on a Sunday) all free
This morning my wife can see the car was unlocked shortly after 7am...minutes after 8am when the dealer opened they called her
Substitute car was delivered by 10:30am this morning
Now we are waiting on the prognoses
Only odd thing is when we told the Volvo Tech on the phone the error, as he was reading them, he said "um...yeah, we have seen that before, it will have to be towed."

I'll keep you posted.

Good to hear they are taking care of you. Could be a one off issue but it is one of my concerns with such a complicated vehicle. Best of luck!

Very strange, as @Astro14 will confirm, these cars are usually very reliable.
Maybe he has some insight as to how to address this issue.

The modern stuff is vastly different than old stuff. Volvo just jumped into hybrid , EV and PHEV realm recently.

Tesla has experience in EV and known. Toyota is major player in PHEV and hybrid high reliability with Honda in game for a while and okay.

The rest of car makers who knows…

For those saying Volvo is "brand new" to EV or PHEV...

Volvo owns Polestar since 2015, producing EV's in 2017
Volvo introduced their first PHEV in 2012
My particular platform has been being made since 2017, but showcased in 2012

So, not really "brand new"

If they keep that kind of beyond-5-star customer care, that will go a long way. Volvo has been aggressive with their tech over the last 8 years and they’ve had some hiccups with the hybrids. Otoh, I’ve seen the issues get fixed. The only complaint that seems to linger is dashboard behavior for some.

IMO the current S60 has the most appealing look in its class.

***UPDATE***

Service Advisor phoned yesterday late afternoon, it was a known issue to the Powertrain ECU Software, and they are just now rolling out updates. All that needed to be done is the Powertrain ECU updated to new software. She will be ready by this morning, and delivered to our home around lunch time today. No charges to us for anything.

The night before we bought it, it was updated to the latest version that was just released. It sounds like they found the issue and resolved it within 6 weeks (for future readers it didn't take 6 weeks to resolve this, just overnight) if this works. I'll keep you posted if we hear anything else.

I have read the many reviews on the GUI for this car, with the best reviews saying it is "meh". I don't get it...not at all. For a modern person with a cell phone, it is basically an andriod...super easy. I had the Kia EV6, and then my bride had the Kia Sportage HEV, and those infotainments were HORRIBLE. I did finally learn it, but my bride struggled daily. We both find the Volvo super intuitive...it is just like using a cell phone. I just say "hey google" and it does whatever I say...how much harder can it get?

The concerns from reading I did was more based on reliability than design. Green screen of death or magenta screen of death, where it all goes green, repeated trips to the dealer, update after update. The other problem I saw on the Volvo forums was long lag time on screen response when cel phone signal was iffy. The running theory on the Volvo interwebs is the code is very communication-centric and spotty signal causes lags on-screen. They are wondering just how much information the vehicle is sharing (?). Idk. The complaints were common enough that, though I have loved me 3 Volvos, I’m not sure.

A coworker bought a XC90 hybrid. It took about a year and a half for the dealer to work out software problems in the driveline. He’s a techie and was ok with it. Dealer said they’d only sold three of them and didn’t have enough experience with them to troubleshoot. It was eventually worked out. They loved the car once sorted.

Glad it was sorted .

I ran into similar failure mode with non high tech VW Tiguan (max of 20-30 mph) although restart it would reset for 5 mins - all day.

VW replaced ignition wiring harness under extended warranty for failure(150k).

Final update...(hopefully)

Car was dropped off right on time, polite gentlemen, clean, and so far good to go.
Not surprising, these new Volvo's are generally quite reliable.
I'm certain you won't have any further issues.
