Last Saturday evening a mile into my drive of about 20 miles, my 1st CEL came on, in the Maverick Hybrid. So Monday morning I called and made an appointment at the Dealer. My appointment is for next Tuesday. Yesterday on longish drive through NW Missouri, the light went off sometime in the latter part of my drive. Even when the light was on the truck drove and ran fine.

The truck is going to the dealer for a software update anyway. So, should I still have them check and see what the code was, that is probably saved. Only thing I did to the truck myself was to reopen the fuel door wait five seconds and close the fuel door. The hybrid Maverick has a button on the dash to open fuel door, as the tank is pressurized. This was done on Tuesday morning. Would this have fixed the CEL almost two and a half days later? Several other trips between 5 and 20 miles were made between reopening and closing of the fuel door.

Most of the emissions related faults will reset themselves if the fault is not redetected in X number of drive cycles. A bluetooth dongle and the torque pro app would let you see what the fault is and reset it yourself, at any time, to see if it comes back.

I have a check engine light that pops up on my Corvette about 3 or 4 times a year and then goes away for long periods of time as well. It’s been doing this for 5-6 years now. I’m 95% sure it’s the transmission temperature sensor because it’s a common issue with the C7 and my transmission temperature never gets much above 100F on the gauge even after driving all day long. It’s about $1000 to fix it so I haven’t bothered with it

Probably some stupid sensor having a sneeze every once in a while. If it takes too long to figure out or costs too much but doesn't stop it from passing inspection i'd forget about it.

I found the same thing. By the time my newly ordered blue tooth code reader arrived the light had gone off and it never came back on again even though I owned the car for 10 years.

I thought that EVAP codes can come and go and effectively clear themselves (even while driving) when the fault no longer exists, i.e. Honda's infamous loose gas cap. Non-EVAP codes have to be cleared manually.

It was probably an EVAP code. Our van occasionally threw one until I left the gas cap on a pump in Benton, MO and had to get a new one. Either waiting a few drive cycles or manually clearing the code would make it go away for months at a time.

It's probably an evap issue.
Have them pull the codes.
If you have your Ford Pass linked up, it should alert you to a code or warning.
I got a warning, through Ford Pass, for my 2020 F-150. It alerted me to a problem with catalyst malfunction. The MIL light went away before the catalyst was replaced. Ford was getting a lot of MIL on the 2.7 related to the catalyst. There were no regular symptoms of a bad catalyst.
After the catalyst was replaced, Ford issued a TSB for the problem. It involved an update. That update increased my fuel mileage. I believe that the computer was causing a rich running condition that were fouling the catalysts. The tail pipe soot decreased after the update

Just get the code read by dealer or even auto zone and you can get meaningful answer here.

I had one like that but a slight exhaust leak. Got code read thru vehicle nav screen as emissions. Fix exhaust leak, CEL gone.

I purchased a Dodge minivan new about 20 years ago, CEL light came on a few times. All but one time it went off by itself within a few days.

Took the Maverick Hybrid to the dealer for the CEL, the code was not for the gas door. It was for a DPFE sensor that they replaced. Not sure what it does, at least the repair seemed sensible. Also had a TSB performed.
