Well, yea, but that was not the question...

This market is not the same as the 1, 3, & 5 year.....

How are people navigating this indecisive market so far this year?

Not at home right now but as of right now YTD is around 6+%. With GILD, CHL and others being very good to me. Even CAP REIT has finally come up. All the while still holding a stupid amount of cash. Which is all part of the plan I laid out here a few years ago. Cash and nimbly able to evacuate are key.

I will admit last year was the first time in awhile the SP 500 kicked my backside. I was in the teens while it was pushing 26%. But look at 6 year vs. 5 year for the 500. Interesting.

My weakness remains gold. It's been a drag on my portfolio. Too stubborn, proud and stupid to sell.

Same here, literally, plus I have a couple more dogs like NUS.

COP, O & NYMT have been stand-out FANTASTIC for me!

Very nice!

I'm sitting here watching CNBC and playing with the #'s. YTD, +9.4%. I have 5 dividend paying stocks which at this date are returning 8.28% of our portfolios. (My wife's and my IRA's).

You guys watching TLT? Today is a fantastic buying opportunity IMO; I've been in TMF since January 10th and took profit last Friday, but today had a record treasury auction and long term treasuries held 50 day MA and trendline support and exploded. I redeployed a lot of cash into TMF.

I've been thinking about TLT for 3 weeks now. May be a good time to get in.....

Thanks!

Believe it or not, my trading portfolio is up 40% this year since 1 Jan. My other main retirement portfolio, which is primarily indexes (that I play with the allocations on from time to time) is up 15.4% over the last 12 months.

I have ARR, LNCO both paying over 10%
HMH bought back in early 09, now paying nearly 18% at my cost. Wish I had bought more..
VZ is paying 5.6% at my cost.
Still have some NAT, way under water now, but continues to pay a div. ~3% at my cost.

I have ARR in both accounts. $450/month, every month.

I have nice gains in 4, NAT is my only loser, But I've made good $$ on it over the years. I sold the last of my non div stocks last year. I'm having to take required distributions from my IRA, so every year I take $6500 out and put it in my wife's IRA. 2 more years and I will close out my IRA. My wife will retire in 2015 and her income will drop a bunch, at that point we will start taking distributions from her IRA.

Winning! Yes I've been doing the right thing. My EEP was up nicely today and really all my energy plays and gold have been killing it as I posted earlier. The ONLY time I don't beat the market is when it's up 25%+

Has anyone looked these gold miners recently? I'm interested in Newmont Mining. The stock has dropped about 20 % in a year while Barrick is up by 10 percent.

I don't understand this difference, as Newmont seems to have better management (no megafailures like Pascua Lama and stock issue with low prices), better ROA (5y average 4,66 % vs -3,55 %) and slightly positive FCF.

Of course the whole gold mining sector is very speculative investment. Any thoughts?

The whole monetary system out of balance. ... But what do I know?
