I traded some interest bearing products for some big cash today. I think I've made up for Monday, but I'll know tomorrow, for sure. I have a HUGE payment coming in tomorrow from GRE, so that should sweeten the pot.

Sold my SKS today. Made 5.58 including the $4 one time dividend. Life is good.
We can't be the only idiots doing this.

I can't understand it. The special dividend was announced well in advance. Everybody should have been buying it. I was buying some every time I had some spare cash. Man oh man, $4 on a $20 stock? Free money!
Guys, clue me in on this special dividend on SKS. I looked it up and SKS is supposed to go ex-dividend tomorrow, Dec 1? Isn't the stock price reduced by the dividend amount the day it goes ex???

LR - As you say it should be reduced by the amount of the dividend.

Well now, isn't that odd.
I bought my first block on 10/04/06, then 4 more blocks with the last being on 11/13/06. The $4 dividend was posted to my account on 11/13/06!! And yes, SKS did open down ~$4 this morning. Somehow I seemed to lucked out.

On October 3, 2006 the Company announced the declaration by its Board of Directors of a special cash dividend of $4 per share of the Company's common stock. The special dividend will be payable November 30, 2006 to shareholders of record as of November 15, 2006. The New York Stock Exchange has determined that the ex-dividend date for the dividend will be December 1, 2006. The news release announcing the dividend and disclosing related information is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.2 and is incorporated herein by reference.

The whole market took as loose dump, but it firmed up in the end.
As for the SKS statement - I understand it, but it doesn't make sense. If I was holding prior to Dec. 1 I would have sold. I have zero understanding why you got the dividend payment early.

There was a lot of selling in GLW at the open this morning. Maybe tax-loss related, from some of those that bought in near 30....? They can buy back in on Jan 1, have the same postion, and take the tax loss for 06 (per the IRS wash sale rule).
If this theory holds water, then GLW should pop like a champagne cork the first week in Jan.
