Hi all. French Louisiana here. This website is great!! I love cars and am very interested to learn about oil too. I have always been fascinated with the things that most people consider boring, like oil, tires, etc. So I guess my first question is this. I see you all talking about used oil analysis (UOI) and was curious if this is something you get done at your mechanic? Or, is there somewhere that you all use? Thanks.

There are a few labs that perform UOAs, such as wearcheck, oil analyzers, and Blackstone labs. Everyone has their preference. Google each one to find their website and pricing and choose for yourself.

I DEFINITELY hope that you can spend some time in the foods section - favorite recipes???

I think if a mechanic actually did UOA's, instead of just mailing it off, well that sounds like my next mechanic.

Hahaha yes it is on my birth certificate.

Ok thanks for the info! I think Blackstone labs looks like my choice. Also they give you the supplies to send in your oil for free.

We have several Swamp-Dwellers here, me included (New Orleans). Where do you hang out?

And I've used Blackstone myself. They not only send you the first packet, the bottle and mailing supplies, to send in your first UOA, but if you check a box on the form when you send it, they'll send you some more.

Welcome. It seems part of your welcome around here is because you automatically are considered like the guy in 'Apocalypse Now' on the river boat - the sous chef!

The oil analysis is becoming less needed as oils improve.
Regular 'dino' oil or full synthetics are wonderful nowadays.
