I installed the new IE9 Beta yesterday, and dare I say it?.....I actually like it. It has a nice clean user interface that is very similar to Chrome. It will also let you pin a link to a website directly to the Taskbar. It's still not as fast as Chrome, but I like it better than any IE I have used to date.

Have any of you guys installed IE9 Beta yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

I had the developer's preview and have been saying for a while that anyone who actually uses IE9 will like it.

It'll never be as fast as Chrome (we're talking 0.09s slower), but that is because of the security interfacing with Vista and Win7 to protect the machine running it.

I installed it yesterday. First problem was incredibly long scroll times on the window. Did a google search for delayed scroll times, and performed an "uncheck" on the "smooth scrolling" in the Advanced options. Didn't help.

Then I changed in the advanced options to use Software rendering instead of Hardware rendering. Fixed my problem! Now the web browser seems incredibly fast. I like it, and I've been using Win 7's IE 8 and Firefox.

My understanding is that this install over the top of IE8. How hard is it to go back to IE8 if I don't like it? Is there an uninstall or do you have to use system restore?

The address bar IS the search bar now, same as in Chrome. I like it; others may hate it.

It does seem to install over IE8. Don't know what the requirements are to go back..

I don't understand how ping time is related to which browser is running. Please explain.

It is outlined here:

I like it and it works great.
Here, ping speed is identical to Chrome. Firefox ping is 5ms faster than Chrome or IE9beta.

Surfing feels just as fast on IE9 as it does on the other browsers(finally) and it starts up quicker instead of the slow bloated older IE.

I'll stick with Firefox because of habit. Tried Chrome for a while and Opera and just couldn't develop the habit. Firefox for me 1st, and IE9beta will be my backup.

I've used Firefox since 2.x and am committed to it for now.

While it has had a few annoying glitches, it has served me well. I am used to it, so am not so motivated to learn another. And I have so much info in my Firefox profile (like non-critical site passwords, sites to ignore for images and cookies, etc) that I don't want to start from scratch with another browser.

I just ran this test 3 times within a few minutes and got pings ranging from 20 ms to 27 ms on the same browser.

I fail to see the significance in Trav mentioning that it "changed" from 20ms to 29ms.

The ping is happening at a lower level than the browser. I saw the post above, but still think the ping is independent of the browser.

My first install was on my netbook. That was about a week ago. I've liked it so much that I went ahead and installed it on my office system.

Prior to this I've been using FIrefox for most of my browsing, but IE9 is doing very well. It took me until today to get my favorite links back on top, IE9 calls it the "Favorites Bar" instead of links.

I installed IE9 beta. I used IE8 before that.I have chrome as my second browser. As far as ping speed well when browsing the differance between IE9 and chrome what will I save by the end of the week. Hummm let me see, maybe 60 seconds of my browsing time might be saved in a week using Chrome or 60 seconds lost using IE9. Well is the glass 1/2 empty or 1/2 full. when it comes to .09ms well life just wont end. Stick with what you like and are comfortable with. All the browsers (IE8/9,FF3,opera and Chrome even safari) are all good browsers. This just depends on your type of browsing.
