You're dragging politics in where it doesn't belong. Period.

Thats what most of us call contaminating the water table. That oil and its carcingens it carries can easly travel down to the water table. Recycling is re using.


Agreed! 30 years ago I used to drain my oil into the dirt sometimes but things have changed and I know better now. I don't fall for the idiocy they are pushing thses days but common sense is common sense. There are a LOT of chemicals besides oil in the oil we drain out and it doesn't belong in the water table.

My oil goes into a drain pan and I take it to the nearest parts store who will recycle it. With the exception of only twice in the past thirty years where there were extenuating cicumstances.

It is impossible to discuss, for example, the price of a quart of oil or the newer clipper oils without touching on the above subjects.

The main reason for these new thinner oils and the engines that are designed for them revolve around around those very subjects. It has NOTHING at all to do with politics.

However once those subjects are brought into the equation the blame game starts and then it always turns political real fast. That is why the mods get nervous when we start heading that way.

That's all I'll say on the subject.

I couldn't help it. I bought a 5 qt jug of the NextGen Max Life today for the next OCI in my truck. With the $10 MIR, it only cost me $7.88. Pretty cheap for oil!

Oh, here is the kicker... I'm going to use my last OEM Nissan filter, made in China with cardboard end caps! Will my truck blowup? LOL

Well is not a bad idea, but I wouldn't use it. Not because is recyclable, Valvoline is not my cup of tea!

If anything this oil is of better quality than Valvoline conventional. Valvoline isn't going to put this product out without major testing. Either way Recycled oil is THE SAME QUALITY after re-refining as refined virgin mineral oil.

My problem with Ashland is their recommended OCI of 3K miles. That is a truly disastrous environmental policy. I'll consider buying NextGen when they drop the 3K OCI recommendation.

Just did the same thing only via Autozone oil change special. $19.99 for 5+ jug and a filter minus $10 rebate makes for an inexpensive oil change.

I have 2300 miles on NextGen Maxlife in our daily driver and it is performing just like regular Maxlife thus far.

Looks like a marketing ploy. I work for a major brewery but the retail/marketing end is the same as oil. You roll out a new product that distinguishes you from the competition and increases your market share and shelf space at the local Walmart. If you gain sales/share, rivals roll out their own similiar product to compete your new product. Remember all the "Ice" beer that appeared at the same time. Where is it now? If Nextgen catches on you will see Mobil, Castrol and Pennzoil come out with their own "Green" oil to compete, but I predict Nextgen will soon go the way of Zima, a long slow torturous death. http://www.slate.com/id/2204596/

Going on their site and reading the data sheets, the nextgen specs actually look better than the "regular" specs. Same additives, but lower NOAK numbers, higher TBN's, lower pour points.
I think Ashland has a lot invested in this technology and will ensure than the nextgen's meet or exceed their normal product standards. I am sure they are aware of how skeptical people will be.

i have a friend that works at valvoline and he said some of the nextgen oil they got was milky and nasty from the barrel.

Just saw a TV ad on the "Speed Channel" this morning about this new oil. It's seems interesting to me and want more info on this but although it must be recycled oil that's obviously filtered very well they must have replace the additive package with a new dose. They still guarantee your motor according to the commercial.

They do. And it costs $2 less than the normal stuff in the Red jug. Thats why i bought it.

And the Maxlife Nextgen has Moly. Who wouldnt want that!

Coulda sworn i saw "Nextgen Maxlife" in 5qt jug too... Maybe i will put that in the next fill.

Now we have 5w30 vs 5W-20 going on there too, the debate.

Which, was then, rerefined, and made new, and given new additives.

I couldnt care less about the "recycled content" it has two things that are good, three actually:

1) Good brandname
2) SN RATING
3) MOLY

4) A lower price.

And if this rerecycled oil then gets rerecycled again... I dont care how they make it, but i want my engine so clean i can brush my teeth in the reflection of my fill hole. INSTANTLY!

(I could care less how they make the oil. It costs less, thats the main thing for me. oy.)

I know someone who has a Prius who uses Nextgen, He went to the East Coast to save some whales. He drove then to California for a support more immigration rally. He then drove to Canada to protest acid rain and high sulfur coal. He now is in Washington DC to rally for tougher auto and factory emissions standards. All on one OCI. He claims his vegan diet maintains his stamina for all that travel.
Okay it's getting deep in here. You all could probably smell the male bovine feces from a mile away. Just chiming in on how it went mildly political.

This oil is not filtered. Its re-refined, its just as good as oil made from crude. There are no contaminants no junk nothing harmful.
