Yeah oil underground not exposed to air is a separate matter.
When discussed some years ago air migration thru (in and out of ) the plastic container was considered an issue and that was considered a possible impact on the chemistry of the oil/additives eg moisture formulation due to temperature changes.
Why does a longer shelf oil matter when specs usually change every 3 to 5 years anyway and stocking up beyond that period ? Unless someone is talking about oil stored in a garage and inherited many years later.
Should double check with Peak Oil was the response by a Chemist or by a person acting as a tech rep with limited knowledge.
Could also be interpreted "no shelf life" meaning it should be used immediately as it cannot sit around.
