Instant coffee? Yes/No?

My version of almost instant coffee is roasting each bean by hand with a magnifying glass on noon sunny days, then hand grinding each bean, weighing each to the .01 gram in the process then extract 1 gloopy drop at a time.
During the Civil War a few Sharps carbines were made with a coffee grinder in the butt stock. Some claim it was not for coffee, but most they likely were. The idea was supposedly to keep soldiers from grinding the beans with the butt of the rifle. You can read about them and view an example here:

Civil War soldiers on both sides lived on coffee (or fake coffee in the south) and generals are said to have liked them wired on caffeine for those insane charges, like on the third day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
