He necessarily wasn't distracted. It would be hard to tell when you are coming up on the flat bed if the bed was raised. Of course no matter what the driver was thinking or doing-it was a very dumb situation to put yourself in. But the gene pool powers that be decided it wasn't his time to go......

I still don't understand what the truck was doing parked there and why none of the police on the scene told it to move. It had been there long enough for the driver to get out and lower the ramp. There is no car waiting to be towed away anywhere near the truck. All the activity is on the other side of the median.

Nothing makes sense here. Tow truck sitting in the lane, I didn’t see any flashing lights except for hazards, truck is on the wrong side of the median to start with.

The driver must have been distracted to not see that coming. No sign of any brakes before impact.

The driver will surely get their payday but I suspect they will feel the effects of this accident for the rest of his or her life.

I'm actually surprised this kind of thing hasn't happened before. I'm sure IF the driver was doing everything as described in the drivers manual, it would not have happened. Was it a case of cell phone distraction, or maybe target fixation ?. Then, if your driving down a highway and see up ahead of you something that shouldn't be there do you, keep going and hope for the best, or hit the brakes slow down and pull over a lane, or take the opportunity to practice your jumping technique ?. By the way, I did see the film of it on the 11 oclock news.
