A frequently used railroad crossing sometimes gets impassable due to a stopped freight train.

Wife and I had a discussion in ita. She states if stopped she would get up speed and give her Acura RDX gas and jump the curb.

Blew my mind for multiple reasons. One is she is not of that mindset, she follows every law every time. Her RDX would
Not clear this curb, it would take out her front bump and undercarriage.

Sometimes we get the unexpected from our spouse.

I don't know if this still applies, but car companies in parts of Europe used to have a "curb test", where the suspension is tested for its ability to drive up square curbs like shown here. Apparently, people do that, or maybe park on the sidewalk at times there?

If I tried that -even in a drought- I'd find the soggy spot, get stuck and caught.

The dealership I worked at stored cars in an adjacent parking lot which was lower than the dealership's lot.
The lot monkeys and salesmen would roll up to and touch the curb with one tire, stop, then step on the gas to get atop the curb.
They'd do this 4 times.
You could hear those mid-'70's Mopars creak their disapproval.

I did something similar in a 1998 Civic that had lots of clearance under the car.

She might get stuck on it since she has to go back down the other side. A little momentum and a touch of irritability and you’d be surprised what the RDX can do!

I suspect that it could be done without damaging the bumper and undercarriage IF it was attempted slowly (~3 mph) at an modest angle (30 degrees?) relative to the curb. It might cause a little bit of sidewall scrubbing, but hopefully, not curb rash to the rims.

Knowing @GON, he could/would do it if the train broke down across the crossing indefinitely.

That's why she needs something with more ground clearance and good AWD/4WD system.

How long does that stay impassable for normally? Where would she go just back home or just anywhere but there?

I hopped a median like that about a week ago to get around a stopped train in North Chuck. In my truck. I had wife and one daughter in the car. Told them NOT to try this with the Rav4. Xterra would be fine.

I guess giving her a lesson on how to this without "getting up some speed", would be a good idea! My wife also surprised me the one day when I came home to a muddy CRV after trying to follow the tractor trail through a low spot... I think some people don't know how carefully you have to evaluate the conditions and how fragile a street vehicle is underneath, compared to an atv, or a built jeep.

Not too smart to be doing that to an Acura RDX. I would not be a happy camper either. Excess wear and tear on suspension not necessary. Menopausal ????? Hormones are difficult. My wife has not been the same since " it" started. Going on 10 years dealing with that already :(...Not their fault.... Gotta lay the law down on her driving habits. My wife use to drive like she was driving a UPS or Fed-Ex truck...No more. Last brake job was just a pad slap. Normally it's everything with removing pretty blue rotors from overheating and warping. Now, she gets the finger, high beamed, horn blasted at her. Told her very simply. Next brake job, YOU take it to a shop and YOU pay for it. That's all it took. :)

My Grandfather (who was 95 at the time) did that unintentionally at a shopping mall with his Grand Marquis several years ago. Ended up stuck on the median, needed a tow truck to remove it. He was upset that he did that, but it didn't do any obvious damage. He said the Marquis still drove fine afterward.

Where do people say, “jump the curb”? I always hear, “hop the curb.” Interesting.

Everywhere, except where you and @SC Maintenance are, I'm guessing? So funny, I had never heard the expression "hop the curb" until you asked the question. Now, I have heard it twice, within a couple minutes.

I used to live in South Carolina, where SC Maintenance is, and I don't recall ever hearing "hop the curb". Perhaps I just wasn't paying attention.
