Looking to take the cover over a 3 year old Kenmore countertop m/w. The screws in the back appear to be 3mm hex but they have a nub in the middle that keeps the hex wrench from seating. Would need an indented hex wrench to get past the nub. Told a friend; he thought Grainger, Sears or Home Depot would have it but found nothing. Is there such a tool? I am interested in fixing if the problem is just the $3 fuse (clock works but no power otherwise). If it is anything else, I'll just go shopping.

Go to HF and buy a 100 piece set for $10. Called security bit set. Everyone bashes HF except when they need parts like this. Lifetime warranty.

Keeps the novices out of cable boxes, Nintendo, etc.

I also have a nice 70 or 100 piece kit with all sorts of crazy bits. But it definitely has the tamperproof hex and torx bits (with a pin in the middle), as well as the three bladed bits for small electronics.

Keep in mind this was used because there is a big capacitor inside they don't want you touching.

Thank you. Will try HF.

Looking to just replace the fuse if that is the problem. Saw enough videos that I don't plan on playing with either the capacitor or magnetron. I realize those screws are to keep out non-trained repair warriors.

Yep, tamper-proof screw. Another way around it is to use a Dremel to grind off the nub

.

Do be careful poking around in the microwave, though. The high voltage capacitor is one concern, but make very sure you don't disturb any RF shielding, lest you have RF energy leaking out and cooking things besides your food.

That security bit set is a really nice piece. I have had mine for a couple of months, and it has come in real handy a few times.

Klutch9 you will need the security bit set if you ever need to clean the MAF sensor in your Sedona.

HF had what I needed. There is a smaller and larger set of hex wrenches. They are marked T10, T15, T20 and so on. 8 or 9 on a swiss folding knife kind of setup so I don't have to worry about losing one. $4.99
