in your opinions based on reading and research what blends and syns are pretty good all around in 5w30? exclude amsoil, redline and schaeffers (we all know they are great)
thanks fellas

seems to me that maxlife (blend) and penzoil truck and suv (blend) would be pretty good. maxlife has great additive package and both are around 20-30% syn.. looks like it would be great 5k mile interval oil to me!

Valv. Durablend seems to be held in high regard by some BITOGrs. Personally I don't understand the motivation for a blend - not that big a diff. in $ from full synth. Unless you want to know that you've got some grp II splashing on your seals (for those worried about seals and synth). (?)

I'll take Maxlife over Durablend. Maxlife has 300 ppm moly and the synthetic part includes PAO. Since you are in NC, I recommend the 10w30. For you 5w30 won't make a noticable difference in either power, fuel mileage, or engine life.

yeah 10w30 is fine. i have been running 5w30 M1 and switched this time to durablend 10w30 for the summer and run 5w30 in the winter. the only noticable difference in blend vs syn is that its not quite as peppy when i went with blend but i went from a 5w to a 10w.. it idles smoother and is quieter than the m1.. ill try different ones to see which i like

I would use 5W30 year round...your not getting any better protection by stepping it up to 10W30. If i had to chose an over the counter oil it would be PP. Your toyota will happy with any oil you put in her.

I think Maxlife is the best blend on the market; that's my opinion you asked for.

the only thing with maxlife is that i dont need seal treatment just yet. its only got 92k miles on this 3.4 v6. i shouldnt need it for quite awhile.

I like to think of Maxlife as a preventive measure for seals; sort of like having a daily dose of vitamin C to prevent a cold from occurring.

I like the Schaeffer's and Maxlife for a blend.
Good all around cheap syntetic would be Pennzoil Platinum.

You can't go wrong with pretty much any SM synthetic these days. That may be different for the blends.
