I'm starting to get mad at WIX

This is the third WIX 51515 Ford filter that I have installed on my Mustang. I don't drive it much so the oil gets changed every 10 months or so (or about 1-2k miles).

Don't get me wrong, I think the filters are great, and prolly the only filter I'd use on it!!!

But my problem is that on all three so far, after tightening then to my satisfaction, the label points down and you can't see the logo... all you see is a black can. I keep thinking that out of one of these the label would happen to be in the up position so that the nice WIX label could stand out.

You can see the label perfect from underneath the car, but who looks at it from there??

Just had to rant, but the filter is fantastic other than that...

Does anyone other than me care how the filter label or logo lines up after installation?

Wow. I never thought of that. I choose my oil filter by the color of the case. Now I have something else to worry about as I surely don't want it on upside down or, worse, sideways.

I run the MC FL400S on my ranger, never had any problems, but I use the Wix on the Mustang because it sits for extended periods of time and I need the silicon ADBV, and I prefer the location of the bypass valve. I did run the FL1A at first but had some start up noise when I would fire her up after she had been sitting for a while, and it seemed to vary from filter to filter.

I ran a Purolator made BOSCH once and there was no noise either, but it had the dome side bypass valve, which I don't really care for, but in all reality I'm sure makes no difference.

The 400S has been great, 02 Ranger 3.0 with 177K miles and never had any startup noise. The only time it had any startup noise was with the factory gray Champ Labs filter, but I junked that when I did the first OC. I'll only run the MC in that...

I was told that WIX filters must be installed with the logo facing straight up, while NAPA Gold filters need to have the logo pointed down. This is to ensure that the oil circulates through the filter with the proper spin.

At least your Wix filter is black, the one I use on my truck is white?

Talk about an identity crisis. J/K.

I have been running the FL1A size filter on my Aerostar 3.0 (1992) for the past 4 years with no problems, no startup noise. Normally I run a Wix, but when I run out of Wix, all my vehicles will be getting the Baldwins because of the nice racy red color. Also easier to see oil drips on red (or the old Wix white) than on black. Changing to black was not a good idea IMO.

I emailed Wix asking for decals for my collection. They sent me a couple of nice sized Wix Filters stickers in their black, white and yellow logo colors. Maybe the OP could do the same and have a permanent Wix decal under the hood.

Only in the Northern Hemisphere. Reversed south of the Equator.

So Wix has their bypass on the base end for your application? That's interesting, I should find out of the FL-820S compatible one is built like that as well.
