I'd like to apologize. If I come across as arrogant or as someone aptly put it "A Spoiled brat", it's not intentional. You all give great advice, even if opinions differ. I have a lot going on right now. My job is extremely stressful, with very strict quotas, and draconian attendance, my job is always hanging in the balance. I leave for work at 8AM, and get home around 11PM, 5 days a week.

Beyond that, in the past few months I've had some health issues pop up. When I had my routine physical last month, they found my liver enzymes were extremely elevated, as well as Vitamin D3 so low it barely registered. I've been back to the doctor a few times, and have had one ultrasound, and I have another one, as well as a CT scan scheduled. Couple that with that I just turned 21. Normally that would be great. Now, we assumed, as most rational people would, that the new healthcare law with parental coverage till 26 would apply to military as well.

Well, on Jan 14th I get a letter from Tricate with my previous proof of coverage. Well, come to find out that I haven't had healthcare since January 3rd. I'd had one ultrasound and two blood tests in that period. So then I had to go to HR and get them to let me enroll in our healthcare coverage, which while quite good, is now costing me an additional $150/mo. This is part of the reason I'm doing the car thing. And they haven't yet told me whether it's retroactive or not, am I going to have to pay out of pocket for those appointments? I just don't know yet.

Add in the fact that my dad is still underneath the pacific ocean and won't be home until October. AND now we need to worry about building a house and a new place to live. Since dad is not here, a lot of the logistics falls to me. It's just one more thing.

My mom is having her thyroid removed in ~3 weeks, so of course I'm worried about her, in addition to that I have to take care of my brother and sister around all of this.

I have a lot going on, so if I come across as a bit.... testy, this is why. I do appreciate all your input, believe it or not. And believe me when I say that I'm not trying to find excuses to buy a new car. I'd rather not have to go through this again, but financially it doesn't make sense to stay where I'm at right now.

If you read this far, thanks for listening to me rant/complain. And please, don't stop telling me your opinions, because I do appreciate them, even if I don't necessarily do a good job of showing it..

Thanks
-Nick

You're a good son for hanging around the nest when needed. Best wishes.

You're a level or three above many other 21 year olds I've run into on this site or in person.

Sounds like you are taking your work seriously, which at your age is extremely important to set you up on the right career track. My original comment in the other thread did sound a bit harsh upon re-reading it, but from your posts I genuinely thought that besides regular work hours you had nothing more to do besides wasting time on video games or some other useless activities. Thanks for proving me wrong and sorry for jumping into wrong conclusions.

Regarding the car, just make sure you're cool headed about it. Nothing good will come from impulse decisions. And try not to concentrate on monthly payments only. I still think that a good used car can be found and is probably the best financial option, other than keeping what you currently have for a long time. You said that you will have close to $10k on hand, well that kind of money can buy a very good and reliable car with lots of life left.
There are options out there besides buying brand new or a total beater. I know a lot of people are saying that used car market is crazy, but that's not my experience and I know good deals can be found, just a little patience and time is required.

Nick.... you're working and doing too much.

I did the same thing that you're doing now, at your age, and the human body will only take it for so long.... and then it starts pushing back.

You're starting to see the push back.

Your health is too valuable. You're young and don't see it now, but you'll likely pay for this when you get older.

You need to slow down.

I try to find a little time when I get home to play some planetside 2, or read a book before I go to bed. I have to do something to relax or I'd lose my mind. As far as the car goes, after discussing it with different people, I feel like this is the best way to go. Because I can take care of my current loan at the same time, without having to try to sell it, and then pay off the difference. This isn't an impulse buy, like the CX-5 was. I've been planning this out for a couple months now. I'm positive that this is what I want to do, and if not, I'm not doing it again. I'm stuck with it.

That's a lot on your plate. Sounds like youre being slave driven for your job too...

My advice, which I havent been the best to follow on occasion, is that even when working hard and long days, try to get some rest, try to do something that you want to do (but dont waste too much time), and exercise. Most folks veg out with TV, which does not help the situation.

So exercise and eat healthy. Dont fill your body with junk and expect it to perform under stress.

Id imagine the house building can wait... Whats 6 months or even a year? perhaps consider shedding some duties if you can, prioritize.

Keep us posted on everything. Good luck.

Way to "man up," Nick, kudos to you. That's a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. We all have tough times to go through, but yours are hitting you at an earlier age than most. Hang in there, my friend.

Everything should hopefully improve in the next couple months. AS we get more agents, I should be able to get back to a fairly normal 11-8 shift. It's a tough time right now for sure, it will get better. I'm trying to remain optimistic for the health stuff. I'm choosing to believe until I hear otherwise that it's not of great concern.

The house yeah can probably wait, but there is a lot to do. I'm making an effort to eat healthier, more salad and grilled chicken. Excercise... Well once I can hopefully get back to a normal schedule I'll start going to the gym again.

Thanks all for the replies, I'll keep hanging in there :P

No need to apologize, but thanks for doing so. Hang in there....as my wife says, if you're going through [censored], keep going.

Everybody is entitled to get grouchy sometimes and we all have rough patches in life that make it hard to focus on the good things. Hang in there and best of luck to you.

AS to your mom...I just had my thyroid out in late December. It was shot from X-ray treatments for acne back in 1962. Cells were apparently pre-cancerous. The surgery is fairly easy. I went home the next day and it counted as an outpatient surgery. I am sure your mom will be fine and almost totally healed up in gery. two weeks after the surgery.
Keep the faith. Don't let your job overwhelm you. Always talk o0ver issues with friends and family and don't keep things inside. It hurts in the long run to do that.Vent all you want on here and we'll talk to you.

No problem, everyone has an off day. It takes a real man(or woman) to admit that they are in the wrong...

I haven't seen evidence of such a thing, so I see no need for you to apologize.

Wait...what?

I always thought you were a dandy fellow.

It does sound like you have a lot going on, especially at your age. I had the same bad news about my liver enzymes about five years ago. I was finally diagnosed with non-alcohalic fatty liver disease. Diet and exercise are supposedly the only things that may reverse it. I have always exercised but my diet has not always been the greatest. I'm trying to change that.

You might want to try those two things yourself if you can. Good luck with everything and try to slow down.
