Now XLM and XLF are definitely a blend synthetic right ?

Someone correct me if I am wrong. Atleast here in Texas they are I believe.

4qrt jugs and the M1 Pour point for 5w30 is Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97 -54 that works for me....last year in my hood, we hit -31.

According to amsoil's website the XLF line is synthetic

The XL line is Group III. Not a blend. Amsoil has disclosed this clearly in the past.

And NO non-sponsor dealer links. Not sure who "TARINI, NANCY M & STEVE" are but they are not sponsors here.

Focus on the specs it meets, and performance via UOA's.

REGULAR M1 is PAO/Grp V. Only 5w30/10w-30 grades contain some amount of Grp III. The EP line is a different animal.

Best buy is still Mobil 1 at Chinamart and PP. PP is actually a better buy at this point. Amsoil XL line is also excellent.

Advance Auto Parts has 5 qts of Mobil 1 (including EP) and a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99. Considering the filter is usually around $8-$10, and Mobil 1 EP is around $7-$8/qt, it is a great deal.

What full synthetic oil do I choose for a 2004 Tahoe, 80+% highway miles, in Wisconsin ? No towing, just commute.....

I want to run 9260 mile OCI (OLM)

So far I have chosen Mobil 1 T&S 5w30...but you all tell me that it's GrpIII based....I want a guarenteed Grp IV PAO...!!

Help !

mitchcoyote- I believe you have it backwards- I am stating facts, and you are painting an entire product line with a broad brushstroke based on a small sample size of a single product type. Please do us a favor and explain, in detail, exactly how what I stated in my last post is spouting a rumor. I am not expecting a response to this post.

But the point is that the best protection for the dollar is not necessarily absolutely group IV as the primary metric. That is merely a value proposition, which may or may not be correct.

To those arguing about a rumor... look down a bit for Buster's post regarding the basestocks in the M1 line. he sums it up nicely.

In fact, since that won't likely happen, Ill paste it in here:
15w-50 - PAO
0w-40 - PAO
0w-30 - PAO
0w-20 - PAO

5w30 - PAO + Hydroprocessed
10w-30 - " "

How one defines synthetic varies. Only Mobil 1 5w30 "Extended Performance" was tested and showed Group III. Also contained Group V.

Ok...th OP said grp IV not grp III or III + IV.
I buy as a preferred customer AMSOIL ASL 5w30 by the case for about $5.50 per quart average. It's a group IV motor oil. PAO/with some esters.

And you can locate a dealer nearby just like a walk in store. The dealer I have keeps the oil in stock 24-7.

I don't want to bust anyone's bubble, but there are only a few oil manufacturers who use 100% pao and or ester based motor oils. The only one's I'm reasonably sure about are Amsoil and redline.
With amsoil this includes all their oils except there XL line which they are very open about being a group III based oil. If you become a preferred customer with amsoil you can get there asl series oil delivered to your home cheaper than Mobil 1 EP, which is a pao/ group III blend much like the rest of the mobil 1 series.
There is some mis-information on this website about Mobil 1 being 100% PAO, rest assured this is not the case. Read there website, they themselves will tell you it is a blend of PAO with other high quality synthetic basestocks. Legally this means group III. If Mobil 1 was pure group IV based oil I can only wonder why they are trying so hard to keep it secret!
If you truly want Pure group IV/V based moteor oil I would consider Amsoil, I have swithched to them after using Mobil 1 exclusively for 21 years and was pleasantly surprised with the results after switching to amsoil. One notable difference was an increase in gas mileage.
I hope this was helpful.

I thought bragging rights kick in at under $5/qt. Good oil though, price so-so.

" mitchcoyote- aren't you the same guy who started this thread? Mobil 1 Thread"

Ahh, now I see. Mitchcoyote is playing lawyer by formulating a question for the sole purpose of getting the answer he wants.
