Hi guys, first time here. I have a 93 Prelude VTEC engine in my 93 Accord with about 40,000 miles, hence the screen name. Any way, I've been using Exxon Super 10w30 and I've had no leaks nor any type of major noticable consumption. I've got some modifications done as far as header, intake, full exhaust, MSD, port n polished intake manifold and bored out throttle body and I plan on doing more but no forced induction.

I would like to know if switching to Mobil1 sythetic 10w30 would benefit me in any way and if I switch do I have to take any measures before switching?

Thanks

Exxon Superflo is on sale at Pep boys for 59 cents a quart. Hmmm - pretty cheap 3,000 mile oil changes can be had. Mobil 1 I use as well but worth the extra$$?

Mobil-1 0W-40 all the way.

Skip the 10W-40 and go for better start up protection, and a better add pack.

Then after 3000 miles, add 5oz Synpower oil treatment, and march on to 5000 miles.

Which...is what I just did myself.

well i'm not looking for a benefit, just wondering if there is any and if its worth it to upgrade.

TEXDOG, u kind of lost me there.

no benefit at all unless you like to talk about it....and plenty of folks evidently do.

my family's cars usually get moved to 10w40 after about 100-120k miles, otherwise it's straight 10w30 every 4-5k.

there's the son's 93 accord@120k, the other son's 93 camry@150k, my [email protected] unadulterated dino juice.

need more benefit?

acch22, sorry if I did not communicate. my thinking is that you live in a hot climate and drive a car with some performance mods. MOBIL 1 5w30 AND 10/30 are on the thin end of 30wt oils. I would want a better margin of protection given your engine and climate so I suggested you mix a thicker oil to get there.

What sort of "benefit" are you looking/hoping for?

the exxon 10/30 you are using is just a bit thicker than the mobil 1. in miami I would want to use a stout 30wt. oil with a HT/HS of 3.5 or more. consider a M1 mix of 70% M1 5w30 and 30% M1 15/50.
