I View Traffic Incidents Differently Than The General Public!

You are not getting away from 30 criminal bikers on crotch rockets unless you hit the 4WD sand pits. But looking at the video again, some where enduros with street tires or semi-noobs.

Getting away, no. Talking about creating some distance at least. Keeping moving is far far better than just sitting there.

Whole thing reeks of “when idiots paths meet” but without knowing the back story or how or why the suv was surrounded by these aggressive bikers(life long biker here) I would have run them over as well, probably more so than he did, when I was at the lights and they are surrounding me and trying to smash out my windows with helmets I would be throwing that thing in reverse and going, don’t care who is in the way, I’m getting me and my wife out the the situation. I’ll deal with the repercussions later.

Again, I don’t know the full story on what started this, that might change if I think he deserved it but either way I would have still done the same thing.

Edit to add: as far as trying to stop and shoot it out if that were an option, no way. Too many of them that could potentially shoot back and now your a sitting duck. Better to keep driving IMO. Now if I’m trapped in traffic and they are trying to force their way in, then yes time to send lead through the windows.

That was discussed at length back when this was current news. Basically a bunch of thugs on bikes (some of them were actual off-duty police officers) decided to terrorize a family and try to shake them down. When the people in the Range Rover were surrounded, the driver did what he could to get away. To the thug who was paralyzed I say 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes'...

By the way, I am a life long (since the age of 6) motorcyclist, and currently have five sportbikes. I don't associate with thugs and idiots.

Also, the wife drives a BMW SUV. She also rides sportbikes. Our 2020 BMW S1000RR M, most often. She is a very nice person, who has never terrorized other drivers while on a bike, or tried to run over motorcyclists...

I am painting with a very broad brush but, in general, LandRover, SUV,(BMW, Mercedes) drivers tend to be aggrresive and arrogant.
Interesting. You don't use that same broad brush to claim that motorcyclists that ride the streets in huge hoards, tend to be aggressive and arrogant?

Frankly, it sounds like you have a problem with successful people, like bankers, who are able to drive a nice European SUV. But you have no problem with a mob type attitude of a gang that takes over the roads for their own shenanigans, with no regard for anyone else on the road?

You are right about one thing. You do view things differently than the general public.

I dunno about that bro, this post reeks of "red flags" everywhere.
I wouldn't wanna be anywhere near you or your wife on the road!
;)

Why bring up the fact he was a banker driving a Land Rover?

it matters. it's no secret that people who can afford the best lawyers are more likely to get their way in court. if it even goes to court. And if it was someone driving a fiat 500, the outcome would be different again.

But I don't think the OP meant what I wrote above....

I've driven that road many times. Back to the topic, there are pieces of the puzzle missing, like what happened prior. Banker, expensive SUV, if we're going to stereo type someone, I'll call him a successful individual minding his business who upset a biker/ bikers and was then targeted by a gang of bikers, and suddenly became in fear for his life. As long as we're stereo typing, the biker/bikers probably did something wrong and shifted the blame to the SUV driver. Not uncommon around here. Knives cut two ways. Remember we don't know what lead up to this. IMO the guy in the SUV was in fear for his life, I would have been too. The second someone stopped from a mob of angry bikers and attempts to get into my vehicle I'd be looking to make my 4,000+ lb SUV a guided missile. Hopefully the guy in the SUV was trying to dial 911 and alert the police of his position and get them involved. His mistake was getting off the highway and trying the side streets, especially in NYC where you'd have to stop. I would have stayed on the highway hoping for the police to catch up at some point.

I'd say the bikers were lucky, he could have weaved hard a few times during the chase and took a few out, along with a few other defensive tactics culling the herd a bit. Flame suit on.

We do know what happened before.

It has been pieced together from eyewitness accounts and is on record.

Bikers out there causing mayhem, damaged at least one other car before this incident and nearly hit a woman and her baby. Basically being the worst part of the Riding society.

The (SUV) wife did throw a piece of fruit and a water bottle at them just before the 'main event' kicked off.

Bike brake checks the SUV, gets hit. Mob forms, SUV runs over guy and takes off (in fear for his life).

It's really no secret, the event from start to finish has been on display forever. Except for the water bottle and piece of fruit, the bikers were pretty much in the wrong from start to finish. There's no ambiguity about it.

We were driving home from the airport Friday and encountered a group of around half a dozen young fools on crotch rockets. You need to know that I-75 is fairly heavily trafficked with many tractor trailers and typical speeds of over 70 mph, at least until gridlock happens, as was the case on the northbound side but not for us heading south.
Lane splitting in traffic at over 70 mph?
Why not?
Ride standing on the saddle?
Sure.
Stand the bike up and keep it there through two lane changes at well over 70 mph?
Mad skills, or maybe a serious death wish.
These boys were tearing up the highway but were more a danger to themselves than to any other road user.
At least they were all solo and were endangering only themselves.

I remember when this was released. IMO more in that club deserve to be paralyzed. Act like an animal, get treated like an animal.

Edit; this topic should be titled "Harley club gets what they deserve after threatening family."

I think the OP succeeded in posting his "view" and getting a rise out of all the rational folks here. Clearly that view is delusional and idiotic. It happened over 12 years ago and you want to discuss your view now? Let's move along, nothing more to see here.

Correct assessment.
This is way old news and there's not going to be anything good to come of this thread.
The "system" ran its course; convictions were handed down.

We're done here.
