I turned 48 today, at what age did you start to feel old?

There’s a number of significant events that make a person feel old.

1. The Playboy models are younger than you.
2. The bars don’t bother to card you.
3. Someone calls you sir.
4. Some young thing asks if you know her dad.
5. Your favourite rock stars and athletes are passing away.
6. A cashier asks if you would like the seniors discount.

It’s all attitude. ;)

Diet, physical activity, and genetics play a big part. I'm 31 and have hurt my back pretty bad a few times, but that's genetics since everyone in my family has back problems. My dad had disk issues by 17. I work out to stay in shape/stay active and it definitely helps. With that said you don't want to go overboard. I have friends who were big into powerlifting and cross-fit in college, and now in their 30s they have arthritis and other issues.

Late 50s. Don't really feel older as I am still active. Did a 35 mile bike ride on Saturday and did some hiking on Sunday. Weight room on Monday and a day off yesterday.

What does feel old is when I get injured. It takes longer to heal/recover compared to when I was half my age.

Use it or lose it.

Age = 63.3

Feel great today.

Yesterday I felt like KRAP. Went to the doc to get a referral to a new dermatologist (for my good looks and skin cancer screening) and out of the blue they jabbed me with the TDAP shot. WTH? Said I was past due. Ugg. That baby was worse than the Shingles vaccine (bad), PPSV23 vaccine (not great), Hep C vaccine, flu vaccine (nothing), and the vaccine x2 not to be named (nothing)......................wait that's the worst thing about aging, they want to vaccinate you against death, but baby death on the way in spades!

I get a sore right elbone when I do too much wrenching and power screwing. I just do some different activity, rest that elbow. Also my right wrist acts up a bit.

My distance vision is perfect, but close up - where are my glasses???

Mind is OK, but wife says I forget stuff. hahahahhha yeah, same as always...........

Stay active is the key. As stated, I feel great. Coming up on my first full year of retirement and life is GREAT.

Hike, bike, explore, learn. Oh and they never ask me about the senior discount, I have to ask and show ID!

My eyes started going first. I needed to start wearing readers when I turned 40.

The weight was slowly coming on in my late 30's due to work and lifestyle. I'm a pretty big guy now at almost 51, unfortunately.

Mid-40's was when the daily aches and pains started. 49-50 is when they started staying all day becoming a normal annoyance.

I turned 48 today, yes I was born on Day of the Dead in Mexico. I don't feel old but I have noticed my back hurts a bit after leaning over and working on my car. I have hair where I don't need it and none where I do. At what age did you guys start to feel old?
I think my knees started to go around your age - but it comes and goes in waves.
Also stated to hold the newspaper at arms length around then too.
If You think you have hair in funny placed now, wait till you are late 60's !
I just had to trim 1" long tufts of hair off the outer rim of my ears in preparation to attend my Nieces Wedding.
Wulluff !

Being about 1 yr ahead of you I can say that I feel really good but muscle fatigue sets in faster. Gotta keep up with the strength training and building muscle mass because you loose mitochondria as you age.

I'm just now starting to have issues with being able to read small print in low light conditions.

I have also lived a healthy and comparatively low stress lifestyle. Stress levels, manual labor, exposure to the elements, lifestyle, all impact when someone starts to "feel old".

When I was an intern, a nursing student completed an admission history on a young man admitted to the urology ward. He was 21. She was 18. She started off her history like this, "This middle aged male ...." [And that's a true story.] So if the opinion of young women is how you'll decide when you're old, there's no hope.

I had a lot of elderly patients in my medical practice. I didn't consider them old until they were at least 95. My oldest patient was 107 when I left to take further training (to become a specialist.) Patients over 100 were about evenly divided between males and females. My two oldest patients ever were both males.

At 70, I've slowed down and spend more time thinking about how I'll fix something taking into account my physical abilities. I assembled and installed new front coil overs on a 2011 4Runner 6 months ago. It took me twice as long as it would have 40 years ago. That's OK. I'm satisfied that the job was done well with high quality parts and all fasteners correctly torqued to specification.

I live a relatively healthy lifestyle. One of the biggest improvements I notice was after I quit smoking (6 years tobacco free) not only do I feel better and have more energy but I look better too, smoking really stresses every system in your body. I did have a major motorcycle accident in 1999 with severe injuries and sometimes I feel it especially when the weather changes. I cant ride a bike or jog because of these injuries but I do walk at least 2 miles daily.

Hey at least you are still doing it, IMHO staying active both physically and mentally is the key not how fast you do them.
