Any one else have this problem? I'd plan to do a 10k OCI and only make it to 7k miles. I wanted to go 7.5k miles on my FF but changed it at 4,750 miles. Thank goodness I'm getting my synthetic oil on sale.

Do a UOA once. If you see that the oil has plenty of TBN left, you may feel more at ease to run it longer next time. Or you may find out that you should not run it any longer...

I hear you. I'm having trouble shaking 3k OCI's. I'm 3,200 miles into a 5k drain and my head is screaming "CHANGE YOUR OIL!!". My grams has done 5k on her Galant, only because I rarely drive it and I can't check the mileage.

I know the feeling, I usually do 6-6500 mile OCIs but I plan on going ~8000 on my current fill of Ultra then doing a UOA. I've got 5000 miles on it now and am already starting to get a little antsy.

Yeha I have this issue. I changed out PP after only 5k when I was planning at least 7. But this time, with this edge, I will force myself to go at least 7,500. Maybe 8k, maybe 9... Maybe 10. But 7500 at the minumum.

Ya, I have that problem. My oil is still fine at 10K miles (factory interval), but I still change it out then, though I could probably go 15K or 20K miles on it.

In 78 dino was about 38 cents a qt. and M1 was $5.00, so the cost alone inspired me to run longer OCIs. It didn't take long to see 10K OCIs were no problem for the engine, so I kept doing it. I've seen several engines go 250-350K on 10K OCIs for myself and friends.

I checked the Fusion yesterday and I have 10K. now. I plan a 450 mile trip early next week and will change it out when I get back. I have a friend doing 15K on M1 5-30EP with no problems.

Long OCI - you've either got it, or you don't. I don't even enjoy my OCIs till I'm passing thru 8k. A top shelf synthetic is engineered for extremes. So I oblige it.

Yah, I think it's funny seeing these rookie oil change specialist changine out quality synt. oil so soon.

With my first time using Amsoil in both my cars plus using the filters as well I'm likely only going to go 10K miles (about 16,000 km )this first time around and see how it looks . Now IF at 10K it's looking pretty good I may go longer or maybe have a UOA done at that time . I would like to go 15K mile OCI's which at that point the Amsoil is a bargain . I don't think I would try going 20-25K

It took a heavy duty commute to change my mind about longer OCIs.
I was in the three thousand mile club too but if I stuck to that regimen, I'd be doing an oil change every month.
Then I found BITOG, "hello my name is cjhepburn..."

Cool, thanks!

What M! did you use in the diesels?

Me too. I have a hard time going over 5,000 miles. For that reason I am just going to use Pennzoil Yellow Bottle and most likely my engines will outlast the rest of the vehicle anyhow.

I had a hard time at first, but a long commute, less free time on the weekends, and oil consumption changed that. In my wifes camry, we were always a quart low at 2500 miles, so I dumped in another quart and thought "Oh, well, I brought the additive level back up, we can run it for a bit longer...." and I did this 2 or 3 times :)

Also, with the BMW specifying 15,000 mile changes on a countdown, and most people recommending to change it halfway inbetween so as to not bias the counter for the other maintenance, it was easy to do it at 7500.
