I’m taking over oil changes for a Kia 2017 Sorento 3.3L V-6 GDI engine with a 7 qrt sump that’s lived it’s life with standard Kia service oil changes and seems to run fine : Normally , I’d go with a 5K mile / 6 month OCI with a 5W30 SP rated synthetic oil as a starting point (unless there are reasons to shorten the OCI) . However with a V6 engine with a higher quantity 7 qrt. sump , do you look to extend the OCI further ? Or because it’s a soot producing GDI engine , you may consider you have gotten your moneys worth with a 5K mile / 6 month OCI ?

How much fuel goes through the engine compared to your 2.4?

It's about fuel consumed vs oil capacity if you want to boil everything down as much as possible.

That's why a car that lives on the interstate can go longer oci, and one that pulls heavy loads needs shorter, or one driving from stop light to stop light aswell.

I'm un favour of rounding down to the nearest easy to remember number though. Every 5k is far easier to remember than every 7k even if that's still an acceptable range for the duration of me keeping that car (and specifically that engine)

What does the prior lifetime Oil Service Record show?
If the vehicle is owned by someone else, thread more carefully and do the 5k OCI Plan. You don't want any fingers pointed at you and Hyunkia owners love to blame others for engine troubles.
