So their response was sending a link to their web site?

Impressive!

I always thought the way to judge an oil is by extensive use, say for 200K then see how the engine looks as in being clean, engine performance, etc. Web sites can give some helpful general information, but not much else. With that said, XMs site is better than most.

Thanks Barlowc. From the link you sent me: Mobil Super Synthetic is a full synthetic that uses synthetic-base oils. It outperforms our conventional and synthetic blend products.

Huh??? Better than conventional and semi-syn. But not as good as a (Debatable) real synthetic?

Is this just a marketing move to try to bump up the image of M1. I'm not an M1 hater...just trying to figure out what they are trying to do.

The subject is receiving a email from Mobil. Nothing else other than that. Save the defending when someone says something about the oil!

When the OP let's us know (hopefully) that the email did have more then we will respond with more.

But if that's it I'm not impressed at all from Customer "service".

Well! I never! HA HA HA

Hi Bill,
I was just sent the link, no more info. But spending a little more time looking at the link sent by Barlowc I see it says: "The product offers performance consistent with many synthetics in the market". Well, thanks Castrol...you prostituted the word synthetic so it has no meaning anymore.
I don't know who to believe, except for the UOA's. I recently switched from PP to Motorcraft semi-syn based on price and UOA's published on this site.

LOL what else do you expect them to tell you? I'm not trying to defend Mobil's customer service, because it does suck, but think about being in their shoes for a minute and getting asked stupid questions over and over again that can answered in the FAQ part of their website.

I don't know how much more they could do for you with just a generic question if you want a certain spec than ask.

Well to both the last posts. Give us some real information regarding your Synthetics. I will not go into the details, you both know what I am talking about. Are any of their oils true synthetics? As in synthesized oil? Or "As good as"?

Know I don't know what your talking about and they answered that question thousands of times if you can't figure that out it's not their fault.

UOAs are very good for telling the degree of contamination(fuel, coolant,ETC) in the oil, or the condition of the oil, but can't tell you much more. I would be interested what showed up in a UOA that caused you to change from PP to MC?

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. Is it anything like telling people here to search when they ask a question that has been covered numerous times?
Maybe the person at Mobil answering the email should have done a cut and paste of what was on their web site!

To tig1. I drive a Honda Accord. Fuel contamination is a (The only?) problem. I was alwaysd scared to go past 8K mi for this reason. So I went with a great oil that will easily take me to 8K and costs less. Although I noticed it went up recently.

Agreed. If you don't also analyse the trapped filter contents - then you know nothing worthwhile about the wear. Higher chemical wear on a UOA may be from the EP adds protecting the engine against galling and spalling, particles which would otherwise show up in the filter media or on the sump pickup screen. Complete teardown is the only way, really.

Well, maybe Mobil means to say that their Super Full Synthetic is the same as Advance Auto Full Synthetic, SuperTech Full Synthetic, Mag1 full Synthetic and any store brand synthetic oil that you can find on the shelf with the same add pack. Nothing great....and nothing Super....just basic synthetic oil with a weak add pack.

It could be that Mobil wants to compete with the synthetic store brand oils with Mobil Super Synthetic?

BTW...I bought 15 quarts at O'Reilly Auto Parts 0w20 when I was in Orlando on R&R. At $3.49 a quart, how good/bad could it be?

I plan on blending it with Mobil Delvac Super 1400, 15w40 for a winter mix, on some Mobil Fans auto's....who insist on only Mobil oils.

Please. Yeah no difference coming to a web site (that sells nothing) and asking the same question that has been asked many times before (often within a short time period) vs a company with paid employees trying to get someone to switch (or justify) their use of an product that costs more than the average competitors product.

No difference...
