I really need out of retail...NOW!

Need an FTE? Get two 0.5 FTE-s to get the job done, save on benefits.

Of course, these half FTE-s usually have 2-3 jobs to make ends meet so the quality of their output at any of these jobs is just barely acceptable.

Alfred,

That's know as being a 29'er cause under ObamaCare.... 30 hours is considered a full-time employee, which is very taboo. Lots of places want part-time workers.
Everything is sunshine and roses when you are playing golf in Hawaii.

8000 people apply at a newly built Walmart and bozo keeps saying everything is doing great.... 4% unemployment.

That article is from 3 years ago and has proved out not to be true. Do you have to call the President a bozo? As an American, I don't appreciate that. I would like to continue but I will respect the no r/s/p rules of this forum.

Look for a company with positions related to that and apply away. Tell them your major and they might even help pay for school.

Marketing/Advertising

Working on that part too....

USA Jobs.gov is great but there is a very long lead time from applying to interview. My brother works for the VA and it's a long process.

Maybe post your resume (personal info deleted) on BITOG and see if you get some bites from folks in your area.

We live on the simple, so we could live pretty decent on 20-25 bucks on hour. Plus, could always do a second job if needed. More money could always be a bonus!

Did try USA jobs a while back...time for a revisit....

Not sure about the resume thing...though if someone had a good lead for the east side of MI, I could always e-mail it to them....

Sounds like where I work. And they are expecting way more, not less sadly...

I got an email saying I had $10 SYWR surprise points to use on clothes. I find a $10.00 t-shirt and get it shipped free. It may have been on clearance as it came from "some random sears somewhere." AZ could learn from this for their $2 synthetic.

Having used that, their algorithm immediately gave me another $8 for Kmart. Bought a 10-pack of socks for $8.99. Kmart is UPS'ing these socks to my local Sears. I have the tracking number.

Their shipping logistics could use some condensing. WM and Sam's Club have both logos on their truck trailers, for example.

Very interesting...

If not for having owned all the property of their stores they would be gone. My girlfriend works in the corporate side of retail. Back in the summer she was contacted by a headhunter for Sears. (She is 26 years old with a couple years of experience in a niche market.) Sears offers a 50% higher salary + a promotion. She had 4 phone interviews between San Francisco and Chicago that went very well. Then Sears says they want to fly her out to their headquarters in San Francisco for a final face to face.

This is key; someone at Sears offices in Chicago sets up her flight and provides her interview time.

So, $1000+ flight from Philadelphia to San Fran. She is killing some time before her interview starts at 2pm. She gets a phone call around 12:40 from Sears asking if everything is ok and why she hasn't shown up for the interview. Dummy in Chicago gave her the interview time in Central Time. It didn't taint the interview, which also went well. A week later they called and said she didn't have enough experience, which should have been figured out after the first one or two phone calls.

All in all that simple mistake probably cost them about $2500.

Wow!

I really hope we keep brick and mortar retail. Most of the time I want to look at what I'm going to buy. And shipping is expensive for online stuff. Its a pain to send online stuff back. You can't inspect what your getting. I hate getting something that has been previously returned and you don't know who had their snotty fingers all over it. I don't want the UPS truck making a thousand trips up and down my street.

I like getting in the car and going shopping. I like looking at stuff in the auto dept and hardware stores. I can spend hours looking at tools and stuff.

Agree....when I want to shop, I want to be able to see it....

The interview was in San Francisco. That is in California.

Went to two different sears stores in the Austin area this past week.

Have not set foot in a sears in 5 years. I received a 25 dollar gift card from someone for Christmas and was looking for an SUV jack.

Both stores were absolute dumps. It was raining outside and first store had several leaks in the roof with garbage cans sitting under the leak in the showroom.

Racks of items out of order, store looked terrible. I walked right out. Second store did not have the jack I wanted in stock.

I probably could have looked on amazon, picked the jack I wanted based on good reviews and had it delivered to my door in two days for free shipping.

I did just that (went to the store to "kick the tires") BUT I bought my camera from BB's online Marketplace as it was only available refurbished online....seemed fair to me...

Which I don't understand..because they are still wasting gas to get there.

That, and companies like Best Buy, Target, and Bed, Bath and Beyond will make pretty much anything in store now anyways...

Hope you do find something bud!

Seems like I can do anything and willing to try anything at the job (a fact I point out in a few interviews), but for whatever reason-not good enough I guess.

Find that interesting since I hear so many people complain about how lazy their co workers are....

I've very into the stock market, Amazon loses money every quarter just like Sears. Wall Street and Jeff Bezos make sure an endless supply of money is available so that they can continue to grow while in the red. I think Amazon is great but it is the most overblown stock.
