I need a 2 quart filter with 3/4-16 Ford threads?

It's "mis" nomenclature or misnomer that's carried over from the Fram commercials that stated that if you changed your oil and not your filter, you would leave one quart of dirty oil in your engine. All filters back then were about the same size. If you look at a quart of milk vs. a FL1A you can easily see that you could never fit it inside. That's without doing the math.

So ..when you add only 2.XX inches to a "one quart" filter ..what do you get?

For those who want the economy of forgetting Pi, just make a square of it and multiply by .785 ..it saves you a few steps

3.663X3.663=13.417
times .786=10.545
times 6.982= 72.98^3"

59 cubic inches is a quart. I think that the internals should account for the rest of the 73 cubic inches (end caps, media, other hardware, etc.).

Thanks Gary. Mystery solved. I'm suprised that Wix of all companies would make such a gross miscalculation. Filter probably holds 1.01 quarts and so they rounded up? Guess we could call my L30022 tractor filter a 3 quart filter!

Hey, Bingo! (Light bulb turns on.) Let's eliminate the sump and run a 6 quart filter instead! Think of the ease of oil changes, just spin a filter and put the old one in the drainer.

Years ago I think Smokey Unic {sp} had an idea similar idea .Yuor noggin is smoking I think it is a great idea .

That's Yunick. Now to find that gigantic filter, but some other mods need to be done. Would have to look what race cars with dry sump have. Not that I am going to do it to my old beaters, but if the manufacturers did it, it would be great.
