Need oil filter help

Ok I'm adding a full flow dual remote setup on my truck it uses 3/4-16 thread ford style filters. What my truck came with is spec'd as follows:

Is there someplace online where I can search filter specs so that I can find one similar but with the different threads of my remote bypass? Every site I have been to makes me search by vehicle and I don't have a clue what engine used a filter that will meet my needs
 
OP wants a filter like what he originally has, but in 3/4x16 thread.

Play around on wixfilters.com with your original filter and any prospective replacement. A big one like FL1a will probably be better in every way. If you didn't want better, then why go remote?

As mentioned Motorcraft FL1A and I will also add Wix 51515 are similar specs except have a bypass valve which should be of no consequence.
 
What does having a bypass valve in the filter do? I assume my motor has an internal bypass so having one in the filter would just be redundant right? And I definitely want to go better, I'm currently running a larger than stock filter and I'm going dual remote for more improvement, thanks for the help everyone.
 
The mc FL-1A is for gas engines, does that matter for my application? What makes it so good compared to other filters? I've got the clearance for a filter almost 8" tall and I am only limited in width by the perma cool dual filter bracket that I'm getting.
 
Find the outer and inner gasket diameter.
What threads dows your bypass use? What gasket diameters?
Then you should be good to go as soon as you find a filter that matches the new specifications on your bypass. Are they the same as on the old one?

I think the specifications you list sound very close to a WIX 51515. But that is the original filter.

You might just want to start systematically searching the Wix sizes till you come across one that matches.

Your remote setup might have its own bypass.
Your engine might too.
But unless you know for sure, always use an oil filter that has its own bypass!
I should have used the phrase "remote setup" for "bypass" a couple of times there. Let us know what the thread size and gasket diameters are on the new remote setup.

A bypass lets oil flow through the filter if it gets clogged and thus prevent the engine from being starved of oil. It is unwise to use a filter with no bypass on any engine that MIGHT not have one, or in your case, a remote setup that MIGHT not have one. You need to find out for sure is there is a bypass, and if in doubt, just make sure the filter has one. Most canister filters these days seem to have them.

The FL-1A matches the WIX 51515 which matches the Fram PH8A. If your gasket measurements and thread size are the same as these, you have a rather eide range of filters to choose from from different manufacturers.

Well my factory filter did not have a bypass and being a diesel Engine it should have a pretty impressive oil pressure spike on a cold start, if the engine didn't have a bypass wouldn't it be extremely abusive to the stock oil filter? Also I just realized that I ordered the wrong dual filter kit anyway I got this one:

(for cheap off Ebay) And it says it's not compatible with diesels. I didn't realize they had gas only ones. I guess I got ahead of myself in buying it.
 
Your original spec is for an above average burst strength at 285 psi. I don't think an FL-1A is that high but I'd have to look. It is otherwise a great filter.
 
I believe so, I'm waiting on an email back from them. I think that most diesels require a high burst strength filter because of oil pressure spikes during a cold start.
 
The 51647 exceeds all of my specs except the flow rate. Most filters I'm seeing have a flow rate of 7-9gpm my stock filter and my overstock current filter have 9-11gpm flow rates. I would think that a filter with too low of a flow rate would cause a restriction and generally be a bad idea right?
 
The 6.2 has an internal bypass, similar to what a SB Chevy gas engine has. That's why there's no bypass in your original filter, but having one in your external Ford style filter won't hurt anything. I'm a fan of the Pure One PL30001 in that application, use them on the Jeep myself.
 
bullwinkle is right. The 6.2L has an engine bypass (so does my IH/Ford 6.9L diesel) so an oil filter bypass is redundant.

Bear in mind, the actual flow in the engine is much lower than the rating of the filter.

If you are using the Wix as a target reference for all filters of the same application, I suggest you don't. It would apply only to Wix. Other brands could be higher or lower. More media would generally have a higher flow rate, so if you were to find a filter with more media, it may well have greater flow. Also, and I have not studied this in detail, in the few instances where I have compared similar filters with or without bypass, the non-baypass equipped filter flowed slightly more.

A lofted synthetic media filter will have a higher flow rate (per square inch of media) than a cellulose filter.
 
The only reason I was using the Wix as a reference is because it was the factory filter, I think I'm going to buy a different Remote filter setup that uses the same threads as my engine block, that way I can use the upgraded "stock" filter x2 and I know I'm not doing something potentially damaging. The Ebay store I bought this remote setup from has a return/exchange policy but so far they haven't responded to any of my emails, I guess leave bad feedback and use that remote setup on something else.
